Police Beat: Sept. 18, 2007 ALASKA STATE TROOPERS DISORDERLY CONDUCT Sept. 8, 11:15 p.m.: Troopers were on patrol on the Talkeetna Spur Road when they observed several juveniles exposing their buttocks to passing vehicles. When troopers attempted to contact the juveniles, they fled on foot. Troopers were able to apprehend them after a brief chase. The juveniles were identified as 14-year-old males from Talkeetna. The juveniles are being prosecuted for alleged disorderly conduct and were released to parents. PALMER POLICE DEPARTMENT MVC Sept. 3: Police responded to the Alaska State Fairgrounds for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Sean Carpenter, 42, of Wasilla was struck by a car driven by Rita Baird, 50, of Palmer. Carpenter complained of injury to his right leg and was transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital by ambulance. WARRANT ARREST Sept. 3: Police contacted Phillip W. Duke II, 21, of Palmer at his residence. Duke was contacted because of an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on an original charge of improper use of registration. He was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $500 bail. Sept. 4: Police contacted and arrested Jon N. Larson, 37, of Palmer at his residence for an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving under the influence. Larson was lodged at Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $1,000 bail. Sept. 5: Amber M. Conway, 18, of Wasilla was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear for a change of plea hearing, original charge driving while her license is suspended, after she turned herself in at the police department. Conway was lodged at Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $500 bail. Sept. 5: Police received information that Stephanie C. Raymond, 35, of Wasilla was going to be in the area of Mile 46 of the Parks Highway. Further, Raymond had been developed as a suspect in a vehicle theft case from mid-August in Palmer. Raymond was also found to have an outstanding felony warrant for her arrest for absconding probation on an original charge of theft II. Raymond was arrested for her outstanding warrant and vehicle theft I. She was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility in lieu of $6,000 bail. THEFT / SHOPLIFTING Sept. 3: Police responded to the Red Lot at the Alaska State Fairgrounds for a report of a vehicle break-in. Dylan O. Schindele, 18, of Palmer reported a stereo, amp and sub-woofer valued at $680 had been stolen from his vehicle. Further, his vehicle sustained about $250 in damage. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department or Crime Stoppers. Sept. 4: Police received a report of a shoplifter at Fred Meyer. A 15-year-old male of Palmer was charged with alleged concealment of merchandise. He was released to his parent. Charges were forwarded to Juvenile Intake. Sept. 5: Police received a report of a stolen bicycle from a residence in Palmer. The bicycle was a silver Mongoose Hoop D, serial number SNGNP0SH09327, valued at $100. LOST AND FOUND Sept. 4: Marilyn J. Grasser, 75, of Palmer reported the loss of gold coins and gold jewelry on Sept. 3. Grasser thought she accidentally left the coins and jewelry at the ATM at the Palmer branch of the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union. The investigation is ongoing. Sept. 6: Police recovered a bicycle from the parking lot at the Mat-Su Borough School District administration building. Sept. 6: Douglas Phillips, 17, of Palmer turned in a found bicycle to the police department. Sept. 6: Police located a bicycle that had been abandoned in the outside basketball court at the Mat-Su Borough School District administration building. DUI Sept. 5: Sydney A. Rasor, 44, of Palmer was issued a summons for allegedly driving under the influence after she was pulled over for an equipment violation. Sept. 5: Following a report of a reckless driver, officers contacted Edward Demaris, 43, of Wasilla. Investigation led to Demaris’ arrest for allegedly driving under the influence. Demaris was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $2,500 bail. Sept. 7: Police received a REDDI report from Fred Meyer in Palmer. The caller reported a male who came into the store appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol and exhibited poor balance when walking. The male entered and drove away in a gray truck. The truck was located as it exited the Fred Meyer parking lot. Officers initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Tracy A. Hamann, 42, of Palmer. Hamann was found to be intoxicated and arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. Hamann was also issued citations for open container, failure to illuminate lights as required and proof of insurance. Hamann was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $1,000 cash only bail. HARASSMENT Sept. 5: Police receive a report that a 12-year-old female of Palmer was slapped on her buttocks by a teenage male on the bike trail running along the Glenn Highway. Charges of harassment are being forwarded to Juvenile Intake. DWLCSR Sept. 5: Police stopped a vehicle operated by Megan L. O’Connor, 22, of Anchorage after it was reported she was driving while her license is allegedly revoked. O’Connor was arrested for driving while her license is revoked, violation of conditions of release and lodged at Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $500 bail. Sept. 8: Following a traffic stop for expired registration police summonsed Jennifer Anne Collins, 32, of Wasilla for allegedly driving without a valid license. VANDALISM Sept. 5: Michael W. Holcomb, 37, of Anchorage reported a Caterpillar compactor had a window broken and a fire extinguisher stolen between Sept. 2 and Sept. 4 while parked at the Alaska State Fair. Sept. 8: Tamara Mill, 32, of Palmer reported a double-pane window had been broken on her house after someone had shot it with a pellet gun. Damage to the window is estimated at $400. Sept. 8: Candace S. Peterson, 19, of Palmer reported that someone had scratched her car that was parked in her driveway. Estimated cost of damage was $300. ASSAULT Sept. 6: Harry Kendrick, 87, of Palmer reported he had been assaulted at a local bar during the evening of Sept. 1. Sept. 6: It was reported that on Sept. 1 two 16-year-old males from Wasilla became involved in a physical altercation at the Alaska State Fair. During the altercation one of the juveniles received an injured jaw. Both juveniles were trespassed from the remainder of the Alaska State Fair. The investigation is ongoing. Sept. 8: Police arrested a 39-year-old male of Palmer for alleged domestic violence assault IV after responding to an open 911 line at his residence. He was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility without bail. HIT AND RUN Sept. 8: Police investigated a hit-and-run accident in front of the Valley Hotel. Investigation revealed a Chevrolet Corsica owned by David J Parks, 26, of Palmer was struck by another vehicle while it was parked on the roadside. WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT BURGLARY / THEFT / SHOPLIFTING Sept. 7: Fitzie Laird, 36, of Wasilla reported her 2006 Mitsubishi stolen from her residence at 2701 Beech Way in Wasilla. The vehicle was later recovered in Eagle River by the Anchorage Police Department and released to the owner. The case is under investigation. Sept. 8: A Fred Meyer employee contacted police regarding a 14-year-old male shoplifter in custody for concealing $18 worth of merchandise. Charges of theft IV and criminal trespass are being forwarded to Juvenile Justice. Sept. 9: Police received a report of a theft that occurred in a room at the Grand View Hotel in Wasilla. Police contacted Kimberly M. Graham, 39, of Wasilla, who reported that her daughter’s Hollister bag, sweatshirt and purse had been stolen. The investigation continues. Sept. 9: Ron Reitano, 45, of Fairbanks reported his dump truck and trailer had been stolen from a construction site on Kalli Circle. Jason Mathias, 33, of Anchorage reported he found the truck on one of his construction sites in Anchorage. Reitano sent his foreman to recover the truck. The truck had an estimated $2,500 in damages. The investigation continues. Sept. 10: Dan Stephl, 46, of Wasilla called to report that at sometime over the weekend Robinson Mill Works had been broken into. The items missing were $2,000 in cash and a laptop computer. Sept. 10: Shara Kelly, 31, of Wasilla called police to report that someone had stolen her jacket from the Alaska Club women’s locker room. Sept. 10: Police received a call from Tiffany Livingston, 24, of Wasilla reporting that someone had broken into her car and stolen her stereo. The estimated value of the items taken was $280. The investigation is ongoing. Sept. 10: Police received a call from a 61-year-old Wasilla woman who reported medication missing from her house. The investigation is ongoing. Sept. 10: Police received a call from a juvenile reporting his mp3 player had been stolen. Further investigation revealed that a white male juvenile with blue hair had allegedly taken the mp3 player and rode away on a bicycle. The estimated value of the mp3 player is $200. The investigation is ongoing. HIT AND RUN Sept. 7: Megan Williams, 16, of Wasilla reported that sometime during the school day on Sept. 6, someone struck her parked vehicle while it in the Wasilla High School parking lot and did not stop to exchange information. There was white paint transfer detected and the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department at 352-5401 or Mat-Su Crime Stoppers at 745-3333. Sept. 7: A woman contacted police and reported that her truck had been struck in the parking lot of the Wasilla Pizza Hut. A witness to the accident reported that a white truck driven by a young female hit the first woman’s truck and then drove off. Investigation is continuing. Sept. 8: Police received a call from a passerby reporting a hit and run at the intersection of the Parks Highway and Palmer-Wasilla Highway. A vehicle operated by Ronald Pickett, 46, of Wasilla was heading westbound on the Parks Highway when he was struck by a Ford Mustang. The Mustang left the scene heading southbound on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway Extension. No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing. ASSAULT Sept. 7: A 29-year-old male from Wasilla reported he had been allegedly assaulted in the parking lot behind George's Restaurant on Sept. 5 by Jason Gray, 23, of Wasilla. Charges will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office against Gray for domestic violence assault III and IV. RUNAWAY / MISSING PERSONS Sept. 8: Wasilla police received a report of a missing 16-year-old male from the Dorothy Saxon Youth Center. The juvenile has not been located and the investigation is continuing. Sept. 10: Police received a report of a runaway female juvenile from the Dorothy Saxton Shelter in Wasilla. The investigation continues. DUI Sept. 8: Police received a REDDI report at Blockbuster Video next to Fred Meyer. It was reported that a white male with two small children had left heading eastbound on the Parks Highway in a 2004 Ford Explorer bearing Alaska license plate EPL724. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and following a subsequent investigation arrested Shane Japhet, 34, of Wasilla for allegedly driving under the influence. Also present inside the vehicle were a 6-year-old male and a 10-year-old female. Japhet was also charged with two counts of reckless endangerment. Magistrate Heath set bail at $3,000 cash or corporate, with conditions. Sept. 9: Gregory Guay, 33, of Anchorage was stopped for driving over the yellow line several times. Upon contact, Guay exhibited signs of being allegedly under the influence of alcohol and he failed a series of field sobriety tests. Guay was arrested and submitted a breath sample, which determined his breath alcohol concentration. Guay was booked at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, where he was allowed to be released when sober or to a sober adult. The charge of driving under the influence was filed against Guay through the district attorney's office. MVC Sept. 8: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of the Parks Highway and Lucas Road. It was determined that Glen Drake, 52, of Wasilla allegedly failed to yield when turning left onto Lucas Road and collided with Clinton Hayes, 19, of Wasilla. All parties were wearing seatbelts and no injuries were reported. Drake was issued a citation. Sept. 10: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the Northrim Bank parking lot. A vehicle operated by Kyle Beus, 43, of Wasilla was backing from a parking space and struck a vehicle operated by Casey Lyons, who was leaving the parking lot when she was struck. No injuries were reported. Sept. 10: Police responded to the Parks Highway in front of ShopRite for a two-vehicle accident. Investigation revealed that a car driven by Donald Harris, 84, of Anchorage had struck the rear of a van driven by Vicky Lacroix, 57, of Wasilla. Following the collision, Lacroix's van rolled onto its driver's side. Both drivers were transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital. DWLCSR / NVOL Sept. 11: A 14-year-old Wasilla boy was stopped for allegedly failing to yield while driving a silver 1991 Ford pickup truck at Westpoint Drive and Crusey Street . Eastham was issued a summons to appear for driving without a valid license and a citation for failure to yield. The teen and the vehicle were turned over to his parents. WARRANT ARREST Sept. 9: Police arrested Donald M. Leach, 21, of Wasilla on an outstanding $500 warrant issued by the Anchorage Police Department for failing to appear on an original charge of theft III after he was contacted in relation to a disturbance at the Grand View Hotel in Wasilla. Leach was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility. Sept. 10: Police arrested Priscilla M. Cancel, 34, of Wasilla for an outstanding $500 warrant for failing to appear on an original charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Cancel was transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. VANDALISM Sept. 10: Police responded to a residence on 901 Snowhill Ave. for a report of vandalism. A 77-year-old Wasilla resident reported that unknown person(s) had broken out the front window of the residence. The damage was estimated at $500. |
