WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT

HARASSMENT

Oct. 17: Police were parked at Carrs grocery store in Wasilla when the driver of a black Jeep spit on the police car.  Investigation led to the arrest of Beauford E. Horman of Wasilla for harassment. Horman was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility where bail was set at $1,000 cash or corporate. Horman’s vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant.

FIGHTING

Oct. 11: Police received a complaint of a planned fight at Wasilla High School between two juvenile subjects. An investigation found probable cause to believe that a 16-year-old was in possession of a weapon while on school grounds and had challenged another student to a fight. He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia. Criminal charges are being forwarded to Juvenile Justice for review.

ASSAULT

Oct. 14: Police were called to the Mug Shot Saloon for a disturbance. A 34-year-old Wasilla woman reported that an unknown male had slapped her in the face after she confronted him inside the bar for grabbing his girlfriend.

THEFT

Oct. 17: Police received a report from a 70-year-old Wasilla woman that her billfold had been stolen and her credit cards had been used. The investigation continues.

DUI / DWI

Oct. 13: Police stopped Haylie Edwards, 26, of Wasilla on the Parks Highway at Tommy Moe Drive for exceeding the posted speed limit. Edwards was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility were she was later released on her own recognizance.

Oct. 14: Police stopped a blue Nissan Maxima called in as a REDDI report at the corner of Boundary and Swanson streets in Wasilla. The driver, Kiprian Reutov, 22, of Willow was arrested for driving while intoxicated, and bond set at $1,000 cash only.

Oct. 14: Bryce T. Danford, 28, of Wasilla was arrested for driving under the influence after being observed driving over a curb at McDonald’s. Danford failed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested. He also submitted a breath sample, which determined his breath alcohol concentration met the standard for the charge and was held at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility in lieu of $1,000 bail.

Oct. 14: Police received a report of a fight between a male and female near 1001 Bogard Road. Police responded and found Christopher Wylie, 25, of Anchorage and his girlfriend involved in an altercation. Wylie was arrested for driving under the influence.

Oct. 16: Police received a REDDI report that led to the arrest of Randy E. Johnson, 43, of Wasilla for driving under the influence. Johnson was transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where bail was set at $2,500.

DWLCSR

Oct. 13: A routine traffic stop was conducted on a white Chevrolet pickup at the intersection of Lucas Road and Winter Avenue. An investigation found Mark Metcalf, 39, of Wasilla was driving while his license was suspended. Metcalf was issued a summons to appear in court and was released.

Oct. 17: Ronald Coleman, 49, of Houston was arrested for driving while his license was suspended following a traffic stop for an equipment violation. Coleman was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility and bail was set at $1,500 cash or corporate.

MISUSE OF REGISTRATION

Oct. 15: A routine traffic stop at the intersection of Yenlo Street and the Parks Highway found a vehicle belonging to a 43-year-old Wasilla man was registered in the name of Derek Jenson, 27, of Youngtown, Ariz. After investigating, Johnson was issued a summons for misuse of registration and ordered to appear in court.

MISSING PERSONS

Oct. 13: A 45-year-old Wasilla woman reported her 17-year-old son missing. He was entered into the national missing children’s database. At about 5 p.m. the next day, police were notified the teen had returned home.

VANDALISM

Oct. 17: Police responded to Burchell High School for a report of vandalism. Investigation revealed the rear window of a car had been broken out by a rock. The investigation continues.

Oct. 17: Police responded to a report of vandalism to the bathrooms at Wonderland Park. The investigation revealed unknown person(s) had broken four outside lights and dumped several gallons of paint inside the bathroom and utility room.

DRUNK ON A LICENSED PREMISE

Oct. 17: Police responded to the Mug-Shot Saloon for a reported disturbance. Police contacted Autumn Cole, 34, of Wasilla.  Investigation revealed Cole was causing a disturbance with other customers and refused to leave when asked.  Cole was arrested for drunken person on a licensed premises and criminal trespass II.  Cole was transported and booked at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where bail was set at $500 cash or corporate.

HIT AND RUN

Oct. 14: A 59-year-old Wasilla woman reported a hit and run accident in the parking lot of ShopRite. The case is under investigation.

Oct. 18: Police received a call reporting a hit and run at the Parks Highway and Seward Meridian Parkway. The suspect vehicle is a black 1988 Chevy Blazer with left front-end damage to the vehicle. The victim’s vehicle, operated by Shameus Ostermiller, 18, of Wasilla was heading northbound on Seward Meridian when the suspect vehicle merged into his lane and struck his vehicle.  Minor damage was done to both vehicles and no injuries were reported in the collision.  The investigation is ongoing.

MVC

Oct. 18: Police responded to Bogard Road near Yakima Street in Wasilla for a two-vehicle collision.  Investigation revealed a green Chevy pickup driven by Octavia L. Christensen-Vavalis, 19, of Wasilla was eastbound on Bogard Road and was rear ended by a red Toyota car driven by Robert L. Cassidy, 34, of Wasilla. No injuries were reported.

VIOLATION OF RESTRAINING ORDER

Oct. 15: Police responded to the Carrs parking lot for a report of a violation of a restraining order. Ronald Skoog, 24, of Wasilla was remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility without bail.

ALASKA STATE TROOPERS

THEFT

Oct. 19, 10:32 a.m.: Troopers responded to a reported theft on Island Lake Drive in Wasilla. Investigation revealed an 18-inch Craftsman chainsaw was stolen from a shed forced open sometime within the past two weeks. Investigation continues. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to please contact troopers at 352-5401 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

Oct. 19, 12:02 p.m.: A 66-year-old Wasilla man reported to troopers the theft of approximately 25 gallons of gasoline from a U-Haul near Mile 40 of the Parks Highway,  sometime between the evening hours of Oct. 18 and noon Oct. 19.  Total loss is estimated at $70.  Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact troopers at 373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.  Investigation continues.

MICS

Oct. 19, 7:04 p.m.: Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1983 Chevrolet van for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed the driver was providing false information regarding his identity. The driver was subsequently identified as Dennis Thompson, 60, of Wasilla whose driver license was revoked. Thompson was arrested and additionally charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance IV in regards to the possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where he was remanded with a set bail of $5,500.

MCA

Oct. 20, 2 a.m.: Troopers stopped a silver 2002 Dodge pickup truck on East Gulkana near East Eklutna in Palmer for an equipment violation.  Investigation revealed a 17-year-old male Palmer resident was driving the vehicle after allegedly consuming alcohol and that a 16-year-old passenger was also intoxicated. The driver was issued one summons for minor operating after consuming alcohol and one for minor consuming alcohol. The passenger was issued one summons for minor consuming alcohol. Both parties were released from the scene to parents and the vehicle was released to a sober and licensed adult.

Oct. 20, 12:43 a.m.: The Trooper South Central DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Big Lake Road and Aero Lane in Big Lake for erratic driving.  The 17-year-old Wasilla male driver was found to be operating the vehicle without a valid driver license and after having consumed alcohol.  Subsequently, two passengers in the vehicle, Mary Walters, 18, and a 17-year-old male, both of Wasilla were also found to have allegedly consumed alcohol.  The driver was issued a summons to appear in the Palmer Court for driving without a valid driver license, minor operating after consuming alcohol, and minor consuming alcohol. The two passengers were also issued a summons to appear in court for minor consuming alcohol. All three were released to their parents.
