Police Beat: Nov. 27,2007 ALASKA STATE TROOPERS HIT AND RUN Nov. 18, 9:41 p.m.: Troopers responded to a hit-and-run near Fairview Loop and Demaree Circle, where an ATV was westbound on Demaree when it lost control and struck a Chevrolet Colorado. MVC Nov. 18, 6:23 p.m.: Troopers responded to a collision involving two motor vehicles on Spruce Road near Douglas Drive in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Ricky Joe Fisher, 43, of Wasilla was preparing to turn onto Douglas Drive from Spruce Road when a vehicle driven by Paul Anthony LaShure, 18, of Wasilla collided with the rear of Fisher's vehicle. Damage to Fisher's vehicle is estimated at $3,000. LaShure's vehicle was estimated to be a total loss. Both drivers reported wearing seat belts and were not injured. LaShure was issued a citation for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision. Nov. 19, 3 a.m.: Troopers responded to a single vehicle-moose collision on the Old Glenn Highway near Clark-Wolverine Road. Sheila Bossie, 43, of Palmer was driving her 2001 Ford pickup northbound on the Old Glenn Highway when she struck a calf moose. The moose was killed and released to a charity. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $50. Nov. 19, 8:57 a.m.: Troopers responded to a multiple-vehicle collision at the intersection of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Golden Hills Drive. A Palmer 17-year-old was driving a 1985 Buick when she was unable to stop before striking a 1994 Oldsmobile SUV driven by Lucretia Ponder, 50, of Palmer. The impact forced the SUV into the oncoming lane of travel and caused it to strike a 2003 Kia sedan driven by a Wasilla 17-year-old. All three vehicle are considered total losses. Minor injuries were reported, and all occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. The Palmer teen was cited for basic speed. Nov. 20, 8:54 p.m.: Troopers responded to Mile 4.5 of Wasilla-Fishhook Road for a single-vehicle collision. Randall L. Wytaske, 55, of Wasilla was operating a 1994 Ford Crown Victoria when he lost control of the vehicle, glanced off the guard rail and ended up in the ditch. Wytaske was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and admitted for his injuries. Wytaske's passenger did not suffer any injuries. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $3,000. Nov. 20, 5:40 p.m.: Troopers responded to Mile 9 of Knik-Goose Bay Road for a single-vehicle collision with a moose. Robin C. Laber, 47, of Wasilla was driving a 1998 Subaru Forester and collided with a moose. Laber was wearing her seat belt and was not injured. Damage to the vehicle is estimated to be $4,000. A local charity was contacted and responded to the scene to salvage the moose remains. WARRANT ARREST Nov. 20, 9:26 p.m.: Troopers responded to Delroi's bar in Butte for a disturbance. Troopers contacted Robert Lapiers, 47, of Palmer, who had an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant for failure to report to serve jail time for an original charge of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Lapiers was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility with no bail. SEARCH AND RESCUE Nov. 20, 2:45 p.m.: Troopers received a report of an overdue snowmachiner at Eureka Lodge near Mile 128 Glenn Highway. Robert Hoyer Jr., 47, of Eureka went on a snowmachine ride and had not returned. Hoyer had not told anyone where he was going or when he planned to return. A quick search of the immediate area was unsuccessful, so additional resources were requested. Several search and rescue teams from the Interior were contacted and placed on standby, including teams from the Mat-Su, Tok and Valdez. Trooper helicopter Helo 1 was also launched and assisted in the search. Helo 1 contacted Hoyer at Eureka Lodge three hours later. Hoyer was riding by himself when he got his snow machine stuck and was unable to free it. Hoyer followed the trail out on foot and arrived at the lodge just after dark. He was in good health and not injured. WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT DUI / DWI Nov. 9: Police responded to Job Service on Commercial Drive for a report of a drunk driver. Emilee Reed, 31, of Wasilla was arrested for driving under the influence and charges are being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for reckless endangerment for driving with her 6-year-old son. Nov. 10: Police stopped Jordan Getz, 23, of Wasilla for disregarding a stop sign on the corner of Lucille and Spruce. Upon further investigation, Getz was arrested for driving while intoxicated and transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, where he was released to a sober third party. Nov. 13: Police located a vehicle reported stolen at 2280 West Success. During the investigation officers contacted the driver of the vehicle, identified as Donald Bomer, 36, of Wasilla. Bomer was arrested for driving under the influence and driving while license revoked. Nov. 17: Police stopped for a vehicle in the ditch at the intersection of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and the Parks Highway. The driver of the vehicle, Scott Pettit, 42, of Wasilla, was subsequently placed under arrest for driving under the influence and transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. FRAUD Nov. 9: Denton Loy, 57, of Wasilla reported someone made fraudulent purchases using one of his company's credit cards. Loy provided suspect information and the investigation is continuing. MICS Nov. 9: Police responded to Burchell High School for a report of a student in possession of marijuana. The 15-year-old was charged with felony possession for having drugs on or within 500 feet of a school. Charges were forwarded to Juvenile Intake. Nov. 9: Police received a REDDI report of a female stumbling around inside a store. The female then went out and got into a vehicle parked in front of the building. A subsequent investigation found probable cause to believe Susan Chudnofsky, 53, of Houston committed misconduct involving a controlled substance by possessing a small quantity of cocaine. A further investigation found probable cause to believe Chudnofsky was driving under the influence. Chudnofsky was arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where Magistrate Johnson set her bail at $2,100. Alaska State Trooper Nelson and K-9 "Roelle" assisted in the investigation where K-9 "Roelle" showed a positive indication for the odor of narcotics on or about the vehicle. MVC Nov. 9: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on the Parks Highway near Alpine Street. A black Mercedes, driven by Cecilia Sabier, 43, of Anchorage, was attempting to make a left turn from Alpine Street and failed to yield when making the turn and collided with a gray Toyota pickup, operated by Brad Tischer. Tischer was traveling northbound on the Parks Highway when Sabier pulled out in front of him, hitting him on the passenger side of his vehicle. Nat Gardner, 53, of Anchorage, a passenger in Tischer’s vechicle, reported injuries. Both vehicles were disabled and towed from the area. Sabier was issued a citation for failing to yield when turning. Nov. 9: Police responded to the Palmer-Wasilla Highway entrance of Fred Meyer for a traffic collision. Mary Turgeon, 18, of Wasilla was attempting to cross the Palmer-Wasilla Highway from the Fred Meyer exit when she collided with a vehicle driven by Melissa Muldoon, 48, of Wasilla. Both reported no injuries. Turgeon was cited for failing to exercise due care to avoid a collision. Nov. 10: Police responded to the intersection of the Parks Highway and Herman Road for a report of a two-car motor vehicle collision. At the scene, officers made contact with both drivers. Zinaida Tereshchenko, 22, of Wasilla said she was eastbound on the Parks Highway and lost control on the icy pavement as she approached the intersection with Herman Road. Tereshchenko said her vehicle spun around and crossed in front of a vehicle driven by Genny Douck, 26, also of Wasilla. Douck was eastbound on the Parks Highway and was in the turn lane to turn onto Herman Road when Tereshchenko lost control and spun into her lane. Nov. 10: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Wasilla-Fishhook and Spruce. Investigation revealed a 2001 Chevrolet Impala driven by Jason Markley, 31, of Wasilla struck a 2004 Ford pickup driven by Wayne McGregor, 44, of Wasilla. McGregor was waiting to turn onto Spruce Avenue from Wasilla-Fishhook. Markley was northbound on Wasilla-Fishhook and struck Markley's vehicle when he tried to avoid a third vehicle that had failed to stop for the stop sign where Peck intersects with Wasilla-Fishhook. Emma Markley, 30, of Wasilla was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. No citations were issued. Nov. 10: Pamela Aviza was southbound on Seward Meridian when she slid off the road while attempting to turn onto Tamarak. The road was icy and very slick. Jason Christensen stopped and was assisting to pull Aviza’s vehicle from the ditch with his pickup truck when a vehicle driven by Steven Ray was southbound on Seward Meridian and was unable to stop or avoid the other trucks and struck both vehicles. No injuries were reported. Nov. 13: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Church Road and the Parks Highway. A truck driven by Nancy Taylor, 52, of Chickaloon turned left in front of a car driven by Brittany Walker, 21, of Wasilla. Taylor was cited for failing to yield when turning left. |
