Evelyn Scott

Evelyn Emily Scott, 91, died Nov. 22, 2007, at Northern Comfort Care in Palmer. The family will have a private gathering in Portland, en route to Neola, Iowa, where her ashes will be taken.

She was born July 6, 1916, in Neola, Iowa, and graduated from Neola High School in 1933. When she first came to Alaska, she lived in Anchorage from 1956 to 1967 then again from 1972 to 1981; she most recently lived in Wasilla beginning in 2001 until the time of her death.

Scott worked as a nurses aide at Wheeler Oregon Hospital in 1971, then in Central Supply at Providence Alaska Hospital in 1972 until she retired in 1981. She enjoyed sewing, interior decorating, handmade quilting and gardening.

She was a quiet and loving person. In 1951, her first husband, George Spears, died and she moved with daughters Nadine and Maxine to Roseburg, Ore. She married William Flock in 1953 and had two daughters, Lexalynn and Shelley. The family moved to Anchorage in 1956 until 1967 when it moved to Manzanita, Ore., and operated a motel. In 1972, she returned to Anchorage working at Providence Hospital until her retirement in 1981 when she moved back to Roseburg and lived there until 2001 when she returned to Wasilla to be with her daughter and grandchildren.

Scott is survived by daughters, Shelly Flock and Lexalynn (Bob) Warner of Portland, Ore., Maxine (Jim) Enyart of Wasilla and Nadine Serbinski of Roseburg; grandsons, Matthew and Nathan Werner of Portland, and David (Sandra) Beam of Wasilla; granddaughters, Annette (Mike) Gall of Anchorage, Karen Smith of Anchorage and Linette Serbinski of Roseburg; great-grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda) Bean of Wasilla, Chase (Kelly) Gall of Anchorage, Donald (Michelle) Smith of Washington and Jessica Bowles of Anchorage; nieces, Jane (Karen) Bakesz; and nephew, Jim Bakesz of Lincoln, Neb.

Scott was predeceased in death by her first husband, George Spears; brother, John Scott; sister, Maureen Bakesz; and parents, William and Jennie Scott.

Her ashes will be interred in Neola Cemetery in Neola, Iowa.

Valley Funeral Homes and Crematory of Wasilla and Palmer assisted the family.
