Hansen’s message not so hidden

Published on Thursday, December 6, 2007 8:21 PM AKST

One common human defense mechanism is projection.

Projection is attributing one’s own thoughts, feelings and motives to another. For example, wife beaters who sexually cheat on their wives very commonly barrage their isolated wives with belligerent and false accusations of infidelity.

Big Lake preacher Ethan Hansen gives us another example of projection in his recent column, “Overturning Abortion Ruling is Highest Priority,” in Sunday’s Frontiersman.

In his politically charged column, the Big Lake patriarch describes the far left as “obsessed with abortion.” That’s rich coming from one of thousands of patriarchal priests and preachers who have, for more than 30 years, collectively harangued their congregations into taking political action against abortion.

The truth is, Hansen the patriarch is using projection to cover up his own dark obsession — to force women into subjugation by outlawing abortions of zygotes, embryos, hopelessly malformed developing humans and harmful or illegal pregnancies.

" The argument made by Valerie is unfounded and biased. No one is going to change their opinion regarding abortion as a result of this article. The article contained no thought provoking statements. I do not understand why the frontiersman would publish such a garbage article, or continue printing the one sided perspective of an author. Regardless of whether I agree with their stance on any issue, the issue should be presented a non-biased informative light. On another note, have you ever watched an abortion on video. They screw directly into the babies skull and_suck_the_brain_out_with_a_vaccum.No_wonder_we_live_in_a_world_of_Violence._Even_mothers_kill_their_unborne_Children "

" Also, that first post questioned her qualifications. Nothing wrong with that. If you are going to make public a letter such as she has, you need to be ready for rebuttal and criticism. As they say, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” Aren’t you tired of people of her kind making such unsupported, undocumented, unsolicited, unwarranted, unqualified, statements? I am! Therefore, I will confront when I’m able and I really don’t care how it’s received. They sure don’t care what anyone thinks. It’s time, no long over due, that their one-sided views are challenged. "

" No, I do not. What was written was true and clearly gleaned from the letter this person wrote. And again, her defenders (could be her) went immediately to attacking the Bible. Furthermore, I personally was not looking to open a dialogue. I was confronting her obnoxious letter by offering a counter-point. I could not care less how she received it. I for one am fed-up with people like her and their godless rants. They fill the media and the public arena with the subject of abortion, homosexuality, socialism, etc.,. I'm sick of it and I'm not alone in this thinking. "

" in the very first comment she was called pompus, a snake oil salesperson, a defender of heartless irresponsible murderers, and was told that her actions were deplorable. Psychobabble is also insulting. And it even starts off trying to attack her for suggesting something that any thinking person not looking for a fight would realize she never even came close to saying. Frankly, its a bad letter from the outset, but don't you get that if you immediately "slap them in the face" as you put it, this is the reaction you will get? And then no real conversation can happen. "

" In addition OMB the next poster went straight for the jugular rejecting any Scriptural reasons for the elimination of abortion call that "a whole new set of pompous." What are we then left to think of these folks. They vehemently reject the Bible and anyone who stands for it or for what God has said on these matters. Frankly OMB, Jesus would have called them whited sepulchres. You being a church goer ought to understand this. Being syrupy with them will never get us anywhere. Hopefully a "slap in the face" will wake them up. No more tip-toeing around them. "

" It seems to me folks of the abortionist ilk immediately move to character assasination. And no I don't seem them as justified in taking such an antagonistic stance. As for that first comment, I've read it and don't see where it was inappropriate. This woman did in fact use psychobabble to denegrate Hansen and at the end of her letter was most repugnant suggesting that the man has a "dark obsession" to subjugate women. That first comment was, in my opinion, on the light side. You'll also notice how none of them addressed the Norma McCorvey comment. "

" I have known Ethan for years as a friend and a minister. I no longer attend his church however, because I fundamentally disagree with him theologically. I understand how you feel that anyone who challenges a supporter of abortion immediately gets labeled in any number of unkind and often untrue ways. But you do get, don't you, that they feel exactly the same way about you? With reason, the very first comment (may not have been you) was to call this woman many things, none of which were intellectually defensible or decent. This kind of attack doesn't help anyone. "

To OMG wrote on Dec 11, 2007 9:38 AM:

" You know him as a person and your neighbor? Or as a person who goes to his church? As I stated previously, I'm not a fan of his. He writes poorly and often what he writes is harshly judgmental. But this opinion letter passed unfair pronouncements on him Mittelstead giving off some air of superiority and "inner-knowledge" when clearly she is an abortionist who was offended by the challenge to abortion. I find it ironic how people like that cannot stand confrontation and immediately deem every challenge an "insult." Everyone is an “expletive” who disagrees with them. "

" What are you trying to accomplish? You enter this post immediately choosing sides while clearly lacking thoughtful consideration of what I've posted, e.g. swine/pearls. If you reject the Bible then yes that shoe fits you. These abortionists pass judgement on someone they don't know making undocumented statements as though they're true and it's incumbent on me to give statistics? Learn the truth about Norma McCorvey or Sandra Bensing and maybe then YOU can be dignified and intelligent in this discussion. As for my "pearls" you've apparently judged yourself unworthy of them already in your yearning for insults! "

Just like your kind to also assume that my statement regarding not casting my pearls before swine is relative to conversation when my comment clearly identifies its relationship to the Bible which you “abortionists” reject. You make so much noise in your own head you cannot hear anything else. I use insults? But you think it okay to use bumptious moron? Truly you imperious dullard, this which suits you well! "

" "Bumptious moron". OMG, I love that. And its funny because its true, which just makes it better. And these are the exact same lines he uses pretty much any time he posts something, no matter the topic. How can you people try to have a conversation with someone who has decided that you are evil right of out of the starting gate and says as much? He also says that he has no intention of actually talking to you because you are the proverbial swine (then of course he keeps talking and talking and talking). Such wonderful free entertainment. "

" I'm wondering, Puleez/OhYes, what you are trying to accomplish with your comments. Educate and enlighten? Obviously not. Your statement that a high percentage of abortions are simply birth control is perceptive. Like you, I find this very troubling. For myself, I would like to hear your opinion on this matter, whether it be based on religion or research, as long as you can present that opinion in a dignified, intelligent manner. Or maybe you've already decided I'm one of the swine. If so, go ahead and save your pearls for another day, I'll satisfy myself with more of your insults. "

" I wouldn't dream of speaking the truth of the Bible to you as that would be casting my pearls before swine! A whole new set of pompous indeed! Amazing how people like you flatter yourselves. So don't worry, your attitude toward God's Word in this matter proves you've judged yourself unworthy of it. Congratulations! FYI I have no fondness for Hansen and think his articles to be poorly written and often harshly judgmental, but this woman's letter is repugnant on numerous levels. As is your comment! "

" Don't tell me what road to go down! By what morality do you make your judgements? The Bible wasn't written for unbelieving reprobates such as yourself who can think of nothing more intelligent than name-calling. As for this odious woman you defend (probably you)what mystical mind-set do you believe she uses to know what's in the mind of another? You and she are so like all those who parade under the "banner" of abortion, using it as a facade for irresponsibility and promiscuity. Hate precedes murder, good endorsement for abortion. So like you liberal-minded to masquerade as caring. "

To Puleez wrote on Dec 8, 2007 12:06 PM:

" Actually, you bumptious moron, she's suggesting that HE thinks he has the right to "lead the tribe". And you want to talk pompous? How about moral pronouncements like "Abortion is murder"? By what authority do you dictate moral terms to the rest of us? And don't you dare say that you are just speaking the truth of the Bible...that's a whole new set of pompous and just don't even go down that road. "

Puleez wrote on Dec 8, 2007 10:37 AM:

" Come on lady this man is a small town preacher. Are you suggesting he has the paternal right to lead a tribe? I'm no fan of his but it seems he hit a nerve with you. Your use of psychobabble to degrade him is deplorable.Who are you to psychoanalyze anyone? How pompous of you! How did you gain such expert insight on him from an article? Abortion is wrong and in most cases used as birth control. The number of these irresponsible heartless murders dwarf what you attempt to defend. How much do you get for your snakeoil anyway? "
