" Valley paralegal, you don't offer any solutions. Until the fines and jail time are doubled or tripled and you prove me wrong, perhaps you could keep your useless drivel to yourself. That is unless you could propose a better solution. "

" Yeah, lets raise the fines! NOT! Although I do not condone drinking and driving in anyway shape or form, I do not believe raising fines would deter anyone from doing so. Have you ever been drunk? If yes, then you definitely know you are not thinking, oh I don't want to drink and drive, it's too expensive. If you're smart, then you're thinking, you don't want to for safety purposes and perhaps to avoid jail, but NEVER is it about the money. "

" Driving and drinking will continue until the penalty is so severe that one can't afford it. Apparently, the average $20,000 it costs for a 1st offense is not a high enough price to pay. Perhaps if all the fines and jail time were doubled for a first time offender, we could end the possibility of 2nd and 3rd time offenders. Until that happens, we will just have to put up with people using their automobile as a deadly weapon as they commit DUI. "
