Police Beat: Dec. 18, 2007

WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT

DWLCSR / NVOL

Nov. 25: Wasilla Police observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Knik-Goose Bay Road  with a broken taillight lens exposing white light to the rear of the vehicle. A subsequent investigation found that Charles Bankston, 33, of Wasilla was driving while his license was revoked. Bankston was issued a summons to appear in court.

Dec. 8: Jessica Hayes, 18, of Wasilla was stopped on Nelson Avenue at Knik Street for driving with a defective headlight. Hayes admitted she did not have a driver license, which was confirmed through a records check. Hayes was issued a summons to appear in court for driving without an operator license. A licensed driver responded and drove the car from the scene.

Dec. 13: Kendal E. Bucholz, 25, of Wasilla was stopped for speeding on the Parks Highway at Lucille Street. Bucholz was issued a summons to appear in court for driving while license suspended and a citation for no proof of insurance. Bucholz was released on his own recognizance.

MISCELLANEOUS

Dec. 7: Police received a call from Carl Gatto, 69, of Wasilla reporting that his rear window was broken out while he was driving down the Parks Highway. Gatto stated that he pulled into Safe and Sound Audio and as several vehicles passed him the rear window shattered. Gatto was unsure what had caused the damage.

Dec. 7: Police were dispatched to the parking lot of Fred Meyer for a pedestrian who was run over by a vehicle. Investigation revealed Christopher Bussell, 21, of Wasilla had been run over by a 1995 red Mazda truck during an apparent robbery. The vehicle was driven by Kelsey Retherford, 26, of Wasilla. Jeremy Pratt, 19, of the Palmer-Wasilla area was also identified as a suspect in the robbery. Bussell was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center by ambulance and later released. Retherford and Pratt allegedly admitted in later interviews they decided to steal prescription medication from Bussell. Charges were forwarded to the Palmer District Attorney's office for prosecution.

ASSAULT

Dec. 7: Police responded to a report of an assault at a residence on East Valley Side Circle.  The victim, a 27-year-old male from Wasilla, alleges he was assaulted by his fiancee who had already left the residence. The victim received minor injuries. The case is still under investigation.

Dec. 8: Police received a call from a woman who reported a disturbance at an apartment building across from hers on Vincent Circle. A subsequent investigation found probable cause to believe that James Boursaw, 25, of Wasilla had committed domestic violence assault IV and was driving under the influence of alcohol. Boursaw was arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility with no bail set.

WARRANT ARREST

Dec. 7: Hetty Evans, 25, of Wasilla was stopped while driving east on Spruce Avenue near Wasilla-Fishhook Road for having an inoperable left brake light. A records check through the Alaska Public Safety Information Network revealed an outstanding arrest warrant for Evans from for contempt of court on an original charge of driving while her license was suspended. Evans was held in lieu of $1,000 cash only bail, pending arraignment.

Dec. 7: Police responded to a disturbance at Wal-Mart. During the investigation of the incident, contact was made with Crystal Langford, 36, of Wasilla who was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for driving under the influence. Langford was remanded at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility with bail set at $1,000, cash or corporate.

Dec. 8: Police contacted Jeremy Pratt, 19, of Palmer. Pratt was found to be wanted for an outstanding arrest warrant. The warrant was issued when Pratt failed to report to jail on an original charge of assault IV. Pratt was arrested and remanded at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where he was held without bail.

Dec. 11: Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks near the Railroad Depot building. Police arrived on scene and made contact with Charlie Mason, 18, of Wasilla who was attempting to get the vehicle off the railroad tracks. Mason was arrested on an outstanding felony arrest warrant for burglary. The investigation is continuing regarding the vehicle.

Dec. 11: Police arrested Janette Dunkle, 22, of Wasilla on two $500 dollar warrants.  The original charges were driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.

Dec. 13: Wasilla Code Enforcement was investigating a vehicle parked in a handicap space at the Holiday Gas Station on Boundary Street when contact was made with Donald Bomer, 36, of Wasilla and Melissa Manasco, 21, of Wasilla. Donald Bomer was arrested on a $2,500 warrant for failing to appear on original charges of driving under the influence and driving while his license was suspended. Manasco was arrested on a $2,500 warrant for failing to appear on original charges of violating conditions of release. Both subjects were remanded at the Mat-Su Pretrial facility.

DUI

Dec. 8: A traffic stop was conducted on a green Nissan for an equipment violation. A subsequent investigation found probable cause to believe Troy Donahoo, 38, of Wasilla was driving while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested. Donahoo was transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where Magistrate Johnson set his bail at $1,000, cash or corporate, and not to consume any alcohol or drive unless validly licensed.

THEFT / SHOPLIFTING

Dec. 8: Police were called to a residence on Dredge Place for a report of theft of money and medication. Police met with the homeowner who stated that a small portable safe that was beside her bed had been taken sometime during the night as she slept. The safe contained approximately $4,600 in cash and three medication bottles containing narcotics. The investigation is continuing.

Dec. 9: Police received a complaint of a shoplifter by a citizen who observed a male, later identified as Kerry Sayles, 39, of Wasilla allegedly shoplift from the Oaken Keg at Carrs. A subsequent investigation found probable cause to believe that Sayles did commit theft IV and he was arrested by a private citizen and delivered to a Wasilla police officer.  Bail was set at $500 cash or corporate, with conditions not to return to Carrs.

Dec. 11: A 28-year-old Wasilla  man called police to report the theft of his snow blower.  Kelly stated the last time he saw the snow blower was on Wednesday or Thursday and he noticed it was missing on Friday. Kelly stated the snow blower cost approximately $500.

Dec. 11: Police made contact with Maxx Foltz at Wal-Mart. Foltz had been previously trespassed from the store. Foltz was a suspect in several cases of stolen computers and monitors from Wal-Mart. While at the scene, officers requested the store’s assistant manager check the area for evidence of computer thefts. Following a check of the area, and the discovery of an empty computer box in the garden center, Foltz was arrested and charged with theft III and trespass II.     

Dec. 12: Police received a report of two juvenile shoplifters at Carrs. Charges will be forwarded to Juvenile Intake.

Dec. 12: Police received a report of a burglary that occurred at a residence on Naomi Avenue. Upon arrival police contacted a 28-year-old Wasilla man who reported various items stolen. The investigation continues.

Dec. 13: Police received a report of shoplifting at Fred Meyer. A 14-year-old female and 14- year-old male, both of Wasilla, were each caught consuming approximately $15 worth of food while walking through the store. Parents of both juveniles were contacted and took custody of the juveniles. Charges of theft IV will be forwarded to Juvenile Intake.

Dec. 13: A clerk at the Tesoro gas station at 211 E. Parks Highway reported a male had just stolen a bottle of liquor. The suspect was described as a white male in his early 20s wearing a white ball cap and a black jacket. The suspect was last seen running north on Main Street. The suspect was not located at that time.

VANDALISM

Dec. 8: Police received a call from a 39-year-old Eagle River man who reported someone had slashed his vehicle tires in the Wasilla High School parking lot. The man also reported another vehicle in the parking lot had been vandalized. The investigation is ongoing.

LOST AND FOUND

Dec. 8: A 54-year-old Wasilla woman reported she lost a medical aid bike out of her trunk on the Parks Highway in front of Carrs grocery store. Anyone who may recover the item is asked to please contact the police department so that it may be returned to the owner.

MVC

Dec. 8: Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident on the Parks Highway in front of Alaska Industrial Hardware. Investigation revealed that Brian and Kathyrene Hughes were eastbound on the Parks Highway when a white truck traveling westbound crossed the center line and struck the side of their vehicle. The white truck left the scene westbound failing to stop and make contact with the occupants of the other vehicle. There were no injuries and the investigation continues.

Dec. 9: Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident at the intersection of the Parks Highway and Seward Meridian Parkway. Investigation revealed Erich Luhrs, 22, of Wasilla was traveling eastbound on the Parks Highway when he lost control of his vehicle. Luhrs’ vehicle struck the guard rail and then rolled over in the ditch. No injuries were reported.

Dec. 10: Police responded to 1701 Parks Highway for a report of a two-vehicle collision. Investigation showed Corey A. Johnson, 16, of Big Lake was driving without a license. Johnson was issued a summons to appear in court for no valid operator license. No injuries were reported in the collision.

Dec. 11: Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover located on the Parks Highway near Church Road. Danielle Cronin, 30, of Wasilla was traveling eastbound on the Parks Highway when she lost control of her vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Dec. 11: Police responded to a single-vehicle collision located at Knik-Goose Bay Road and Reily. Chad Lyles, 19, of Wasilla was traveling northbound on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway when his vehicle slid into the traffic light. No injuries were reported in the collision.

Dec. 11: Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at Commercial Road in front of AIH. Investigation revealed David Britz, 61, of Willow was driving a Dodge pickup and failed to yield when making a left turn out of AIH’s parking lot. Britz hit a Dodge four-door vehicle, which was westbound on Commercial Road. The vehicle was operated by Kathy Box, 52, of Wasilla. Britz was issued a citation for failing to use due care to avoid a collision.

Dec. 12: Police observed two cars stopped on the side of Mack Drive at the intersection with the Parks Highway that appeared to have been involved in a motor vehicle accident. Contact was made with the two drivers, identified as Scott Johnson, 20, of Wasilla, and Robert Carlson, 23, of Palmer. Both vehicles sustained minor damage, but were operational, and no injuries were reported.

MCA

Dec. 9: A 54-year-old Wasilla woman called police to report a suspicious circumstance of a female running down the street and not being properly dressed. A subsequent investigation found probable cause to believe that Kathleen Michelle Lee Paulus-Holmes, 20, of Wasilla had consumed alcohol while under the age of 21 and had a contempt of court warrant for failing to appear for a charge of minor consuming alcohol. Paulus-Holmes was arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility and booked.
