WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT

WARRANT ARREST

Dec. 14: Gary Kerby, 40, of Wasilla was contacted at Sportsman’s Warehouse. Kerby had a $1,500 warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear on an original charge of driving with a suspended license. Kerby was arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility without incident.

DWLCSR

Dec. 14: Police responded to a three-car collision at the intersection of Bogard Road and Main Street. At the scene, officers made contact with Christopher Burnett, 26, of Wasilla. Burnett was issued a summons to appear for driving while his license was revoked and he was released.

Dec. 15: Christopher McGinty, 20, of Palmer was stopped for an inoperable left tail light on the Parks Highway at Weber Drive. A records check revealed McGinty’s license was suspended for points. McGinty was issued a summons to court and released on his own recognizance. A licensed driver responded to drive the vehicle.

MVC

Dec. 14: Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at Herning Avenue and Main Street. Officers arrived and discovered three vehicles were involved and medics were already on scene. Investigation of the accident determined Stacy Rankin, 24, of Buckeye, Ariz., had been eastbound on Herning Avenue and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Main Street. Rankin’s vehicle struck a Dodge Caravan driven by Lena Ayojiak, 27, of Wasilla. As a result of the impact, Ayojiak's vehicle then struck a Toyota pickup driven by Peter Zell, 57, of Wasilla. Significant damage was sustained by all vehicles. As a precaution, Rankin was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for observation. Rankin was issued a citation for failure to stop for a stop sign.

Dec. 17: Police responded to the intersection of Church Road and the Parks Highway for a two-vehicle collision. Andy O’Brien, 51, of Wasilla was turning left to travel eastbound on the Parks Highway from Church Road. As O’Brien was making his turn, Michael Hale, 36, of Wasilla was traveling southbound on Church Road and was unable to stop in time to not hit the vehicle in front of him. Hale passed the vehicle in front of him and hit the driver’s side rear of O’Brien’s vehicle. O’Brien, Hale and a male juvenile passenger with Hale were transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for observations. Hale was cited for basic speed and issued a summons for driving while his license was revoked.

THEFT / SHOPLIFTING

Dec. 14: Police received a call from a Sears employee reporting two suspects being detained for shoplifting several clothing items. A subsequent investigation found probable cause to believe that Bradly Moffitt, 18, of Wasilla had attempted the theft of two clothing items valued at $50. Moffitt was issued a citation and a criminal trespass warning and was released. Further investigation found that a juvenile from Wasilla had also attempted the theft of a clothing item valued at $31. The juvenile was trespassed, released and his case will be forwarded to Juvenile Intake.

Dec. 16: Police received a call from a 55-year-old Wasilla woman reporting someone had stolen her purse out of her cart at Fred Meyer. She described her purse as tan and containing miscellaneous credit cards and checks.

DUI / DWI

Dec. 14: Daniel Arts Jr., 37, of Anchorage was stopped at the Tesoro station at the intersection of the Parks Highway and Palmer-Wasilla Highway for having an inoperable left brake light. Arts exhibited signs of being under the influence of alcohol and failed a series of field sobriety tests. Arts was arrested for driving under the influence and then read the Implied Consent Warning. Arts then refused to submit to the chemical breath test. Arts was held at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility in lieu of $2,000 bail and a third-party custodian requirement. Charges of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a breath test were filed against Arts through the District Attorney's office.

Dec. 16: Police stopped Timothy Hausmann, 47, of Wasilla for disregarding a stop sign on Tommy Moe Drive. Hausmann was arrested for driving while allegedly intoxicated. Bond was set that he be released when sober.

VANDALISM

Dec. 16: Police responded to an alarm call at the business Up In Smoke 2.0. While on the scene, police observed that the front window was broken. The owner of the business was notified. No items were taken and the approximate cost of the window replacement is $500.

RECKLESS DRIVING

Dec. 15: Police were dispatched to a traffic altercation. Investigation revealed Anthony Petito, 21, of Wasilla allegedly drove in a reckless manner and brandished a weapon when confronted by other motorists. Police seized a handgun from Petito. Charges of reckless driving and assault III are being forwarded to the District Attorney's office.

RUNAWAYS

Dec. 16: A 38-year-old Wasilla woman reported her 16-year-old son had run away. Her son was last seen in Palmer and is suspected to be traveling to Anchorage.

Dec. 16: A 51-year-old Wasilla woman called to report her 14-year old-son had run away. The juvenile left his residence at approximately 9 p.m.

ALASKA STATE TROOPERS

DUI

Dec. 15, 2:12 a.m.: Troopers received a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Montana Creek Road at the Parks Highway. Troopers located the driver at his nearby residence and identified him as Joseph Scott, 44 of Willow. When troopers attempted to arrest Scott for driving under the influence, Scott resisted arrest. Scott was eventually taken into custody for driving under the influence and resisting arrest. Scott later refused to provide a sample of his breath for the Datamaster and was also charged with refusal. Scott was remanded into Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, where bail was set at $500.  

Dec. 15, 3:50 a.m.: The Trooper South-Central DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle on Nelson Road near Weber Avenue in Wasilla for an equipment violation. Steven Mistor, 28, of Wasilla was arrested for driving under the influence and remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility and held until sober.

Dec. 16, 12:16 a.m.: The Trooper South Central DUI Enforcement Team responded to a reported vehicle in the ditch near Mile 1.2 of Beverly Lakes Drive in Wasilla. The operator was identified as Justin U. Blackmore, 28, of Anchorage, who was arrested for driving under the influence and remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on a  $750 bail.

DWLCSR

Dec. 12, 11:21 p.m.: Troopers in Palmer issued Diana Moore, 40, of Wasilla a summons for driving while her license is suspended after she was contacted at Clapp Road and Donovan Drive for a traffic violation.

Dec. 15, 7:40 p.m.: Troopers stopped a vehicle near Knik-Goose Bay Road and Commodore Lane in Wasilla for erratic driving. Danny Young, 40, of Wasilla was found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended driver license. Young was issued a summons to appear in court at a later date and released from the scene.

Dec. 16, 3 a.m.: The Trooper  South-Central  DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle at Mile 6.5 of Knik-Goose Bay Road in Wasilla for speeding. Daniel Weiss, 28, of Wasilla was found to be driving the vehicle with a revoked license. Weiss was issued a summons to appear in the Palmer Court for driving with a revoked license and released at the scene.

Dec. 15, 8:03 p.m.: The Talkeetna troopers stopped a 2003 Dodge pickup at Mile 69 Parks Highway for a traffic violation. Paul Fellner, 41, of Anchorage was issued a summons to appear in court for driving while his license is suspended and a traffic citation and was released from the scene. Fellner's truck was released to a licensed driver who responded to the scene.

BURGLARY / THEFT

Dec. 18, 1:20 p.m.: Troopers responded to Fire Station #62, located at 4500 Mainsail Drive in Wasilla. Contact was made with Battalion Chief Kenneth Barkley. Investigation revealed that sometime between Dec. 16 and 18 several padlocks were damaged and a door was pried open on a building. Nothing was reported missing but the estimated damage is approximately $750. The case is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the troopers at 373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333

Dec. 18, 9:20 p.m.: Troopers responded to a residence near Mile 9 of Knik-Goose Bay Road in Wasilla for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed the homeowner allowed four people who were claiming to be homeless and needing food into her home and remain overnight. The homeowner left her residence for a short time the next day and returned to find her laptop computer valued at $1,000 missing. The troopers have developed suspects and the case is under further investigation.

MICS

Dec. 18, 10:42 a.m.: Troopers contacted Karen L. Eaken, 40, of Palmer while investigating the report of an intoxicated female on Maud Road near Witherspoon Road, Palmer. Investigation revealed Eaken was in possession of cocaine. Eaken was arrested, transported and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $2,500 bail for misconduct involving a controlled substance IV.

MVC

Dec. 18, 2:21 p.m.: Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Ranch Road. Shan Treffers, 37, of Palmer was stopped in traffic when his 1998 Plymouth Voyager mini van was rear-ended by 26-year-old Amy Colgin of Henders, Nev. Colgin was driving a 1992 Toyota 4 Runner. Everyone reported wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Treffers and his wife, Grace, and his 2-year-old daughter were all transported to Mat-Su Regional by EMS for possible injuries. Treffers' vehicle sustained approximately $4,000 damage and had to be towed from the scene. Colgin's vehicle had about $2,000 damage but was drivable. Colgin was issued a citation for fail to exercise due care to avoid a collision.
