Police Beat: Jan. 22, 2008

WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT

MVC

Jan. 14: Police responded to the intersection of Crusey Street and USA Circle for a two-vehicle collision. A vehicle driven by Jason Kollander, 34, of Wasilla had entered the intersection in front of a vehicle driven by Ronda Hale, 34, of Wasilla. Kollander was cited for failing to yield from a stop.

Jan. 16: Police were dispatched to the intersection ofSeward-Meridian Parkway and Fireweed Road for a report of three vehicles involved in a collision. Gregory Hall, 41, of Wasilla was driving on the Parks Highway off-ramp approaching Seward-Meridian Parkway and trying to stop for the light, which was getting ready to turn red. Hall was unable to stop and went forward into traffic. Hall’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by David Egbert, 36, of Wasilla, who was southbound on Seward-Meridian Parkway in the inside lane. After the initial collision, Hall’s vehicle then struck a third vehicle that was sitting northbound on Seward-Meridian Parkway waiting for the light. The third vehicle fled from the scene before police arrived. Hall was cited for failing to exercise due care to avoid a collision and his two juvenile passengers were extricated from the vehicle and transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for observation.

DUI

Jan. 13: Police stopped Aleksey S. Vodlenshchuk, 21, of Wasilla, the driver of a 1983 Chevy Blazer, because it had been reported that he was driving while intoxicated. Vodlenshchuk subsequently failed a series of field sobriety tests and submitted a breath sample and was arrested for driving under the influence. Records revealed Vodlenshchuk had been released from jail and had been ordered as conditions of his release to obey all laws. Vodlenshchuk was held at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility in lieu of a total of  $1,750 bail and ordered not to be released until sober. Charges of driving under the influence and violating conditions of release were filed against Vodlenshchuk through the District Attorney's office.

Jan. 16: Police received a REDDI report of a burgundy sport-utility vehicle that struck a plow truck at the parking lot of the Performing Arts Center. The truck then drove away, almost running head-on into another vehicle before running off the road at Bogard Road near Peck Street. Police arrived and made contact with the driver, Jeremiah Sehl, 32, of Wasilla. A small amount of marijuana was also found in Sehl’s vehicle. Sehl was placed under arrest for driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, leaving the scene of an accident and misconduct involving a controlled substance VI. Sehl was remanded accordingly at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on a $750 performance bond cash only bail.  

Jan. 16: Police responded to the Carrs parking lot for a REDDI report of a drunk driver in a blue Pontiac GrandAm parked in front of the Oaken Keg liquor store.  It was determined that Joshua Placzek, 22, of Wasilla was intoxicated and therefore placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Placzek was remanded at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility and bail was set at $1,500, cash or corporate.

Jan. 19: Police stopped Jason Martin, 28, of Palmer at the intersection of Lucille and Spruce for driving left of the center line. Martin was arrested for driving under the influence. Bond was set that he be released into third-party custody. The vehicle was released to his wife.

Jan. 19: Police made contact with a 1988 Ford pickup near Mile 3 of Knik-Goose Bay Road for crossing the center line. Tracy Tesnow, 38, of Wasilla was arrested for felony driving under the influence and he was transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where bail was set at $10,000 cash only performance bond, $10,000 cash or corporate appearance bond, third-party custody and other standard DUI conditions of release.

ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN

Jan. 16: A 58-year-old Wasilla woman called police to report that sometime during the night someone had attempted to pry open her front door. Entry was not made and the investigation showed that the suspects had also attempted to gain entry by the front windows.  

HIT AND RUN

Jan. 14: Police responded to the Carrs parking lot for a report of a hit and run. Upon arrival, police met with the complainant, a 65-year-old Palmer woman, who stated that she had parked her vehicle and when she came out of Carrs she discovered the front of her vehicle had been damaged. Through information left at the scene, the responsible party was located and the investigation continues.

Jan. 16: Police were dispatched to Burchell High School for a report of a hit and run. An 18-year-old student had parked her vehicle in the parking lot and an unknown individual struck her vehicle while it was parked, breaking out the left rear taillight. Estimated damage is approximately $400.

VANDALISM

Jan. 17: Police responded to a fight in progress at the Best Western at Lake Lucille. Later investigation revealed Anatoliy Malak, 19, of Wasilla had damaged the walls of the hotel with an ironing board and threatened to hit the hotel manager with the ironing board. Malak was arrested and taken to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where bail was set at $3,000, cash or corporate. Estimated damage caused was in excess of $1,000.  

Jan. 20: Police responded to a report of vandalism to a vehicle that occurred sometime during the night at Mr. Lube. Damage is estimated at $200.

WARRANT ARREST

Jan. 17: Jesse Edwards, 24, of Wasilla came to the police department for an interview. Investigation revealed Edwards had a $500 warrant for his arrest. Edwards was arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.

DWLCSR / NVOL

Jan. 20: A 15-year-old Anchorage boy was stopped for driving on the shoulder of the road while traveling westbound on the Parks Highway. The teen was driving in violation of his instruction permit and he was issued a summons. The boy’s 51-year-old mother, also of Anchorage, was also issued a summons for authorizing the teen to drive the vehicle from Anchorage to Big Lake. The vehicle was impounded.

Jan. 20: Police conducted a traffic stop on a pickup for crossing the center line. Joseph Degroff, 22, of Wasilla was issued a summons to appear in court  for driving while his driver license was revoked.

THEFT

Jan. 18: A 62-year-old Wasilla woman reported her purse had been stolen from an employee area at Carrs in Wasilla. Investigation into the theft is continuing.

Jan. 18: Police responded to a report of a theft at Wal-Mart. A subsequent investigation found probable cause to believe Lawrence Duke Geske Jr., 19, of Wasilla had stolen $150. Geske was issued a summons to appear in court on the charge.

Jan. 20: An employee of Fred Meyer reported staff attempted to stop a shoplifter who fled on foot across the parking lot. A subsequent investigation found probable cause to believe a 17-year-old Wasilla boy committed disorderly conduct and theft III. The teen’s case was referred to Juvenile Intake. A further investigation found probable cause to believe Ivan Kolomeychuk, 19, of Wasilla also committed theft III, and he was issued a summons to appear in court.

ASSAULT

Jan. 20: A female contacted police and reported that her boyfriend, David J. Greig, had started a fight with her, punching her in the face and strangling her. Greig, 22, of Wasilla was contacted at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and was subsequently arrested on a charge of domestic violence assault. The investigation continues.

Jan. 13: Police responded to a single-car collision on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway extension. Officers found a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup operated by Velez H. Ransom of Wasilla, to have been in a single-car collision in which his vehicle had made contact with the guard rail. The vehicle had been damaged slightly but was drivable. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and no citations were issued.  

Jan. 13: Police responded to the Parks Highway just west of the Seward Meridian Parkway overpass for a single-vehicle rollover. Keith Schooley, 40, of Wasilla had lost control of his truck and rolled. After additional investigation, Schooley was remanded at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility for driving while allegedly intoxicated.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY

Jan. 13: Police responded to the Holiday station for a report of counterfeit money. The investigation continues.

ALASKA STATE TROOPERS

DWLCSR

Jan. 17, 8:40 p.m.: The trooper South-Central DUI Enforcement Team contacted Marta Kay Cronk, 46, of Wasilla after the vehicle she was operating was stopped on the Parks Highway near Lucille Street in Wasilla for an expired vehicle registration. Cronk was found to be driving the vehicle while her license was suspended. Cronk was issued a summons to appear in the Palmer Court. Her vehicle was towed off scene due to the unavailability of a licensed driver.

Jan. 20, 3:56 a.m.: The trooper South Central DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Peck Street and Wasilla-Fishhook Road in Wasilla for a moving violation. Thomas J. DeSalvo, 22, of Wasilla was found to be operating the vehicle on a revoked driver license. DeSalvo was issued a summons to appear in the Palmer Court for driving while his license is suspended.

DUI

Jan. 19, 2:56 a.m.: The trooper South Central DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Tait and Terrell streets in Wasilla for an equipment violation. Isaiah N. Jaime, 20, of Wasilla was arrested for driving under the influence, minor operating after consuming alcohol, and minor consuming alcohol. Jaime was remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on a $1,000 bail. A passenger in the vehicle, Manuel P. Quintana Jr., 19, of Wasilla was issued a summons for minor consuming alcohol.

    " wow if i were in there situation ill freak... i cant believe someone stole from them..and the person that did it should at least know that some day they will get caught so dont do it.. "

    " i think that the court shouldnt jsut accuse them of something if they didnt do they should at least ear out the whole thing about them than judge. "
