MAT-SU — The Palin family has grown, as Gov. Sarah Palin gave birth this morning to a baby boy.

Alaska’s first parents have named their fifth child Trig Paxson Van Palin, who weighs in at 6 pounds, 2 ounces, the governor’s office reports.

The newest Palin arrived at 6:30 a.m. after the governor returned from Texas, her office reports in a prepared statement. She was visiting Texas to attend the Governor’s Energy Conference, where she was a keynote speaker. Palin’s labor began while in Texas, but she was able to board an Alaska Airlines flight and return to her home state before giving birth.

Trig and the governor are both doing well, her office reports.

The Palin family released the following statement about the birth:

“Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged a God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for a good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed.”

Trig is the fifth child of the governor and her husband, Todd Palin, which includes Piper, 7, Willow, 13, Bristol, 17 and Track, 18.

" I don't even know how she got to be a governer, even if it were Hooterville. Now, she's a potential president of the largest free country on the globe? I didn't think things could get worse for our country. I think I was wrong... "

" Governor Palin and everyone else congratulating her think the American people are stupid. What mother in her right frame of mine would do something like the governor. This is a sign she cannot make the right decision (not even for her live and her baby's live). How will the American people entrust their lives in her hand. She is worst than George W. Bush. And also, what about the airlines' rules on pregnant women travelling? "

" Women who have had more than one or two children, tend to labor shorter. So, by the fifth child, her physician very likely told her it would be faster. This makes getting on an airplane while in labor either reckless or foolish. It doesn't give me comfort as to her judgement faculties for VP. None of my responsible friends or myself would get on a plane in labor and especially if we already knew the baby had special needs! In addition, what Governor wants to deliver in front of 150 strangers? "

" Sarah Palin flew back to Alaska in labor with a baby special MEDICAL needs! I flew while I was pregnant-early on-just found some guidelines:) http://www.pregnancy-info.net/wellbeing_flying.html
" the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends women don’t fly after their 36th week of pregnancy......labor.... While the crew is likely trained for just such an emergency, or at least to help with childbirth, your flight will probably make an emergency landing at the closest airport to make sure you get the medical attention you need.
