Richard Arthur Roberts, 69, died May 13, 2008 at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.

Funeral services will be 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 16 at the Wasilla Chapel of Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave. The Rev. Pastor Steve Reem will officiate and interment will follow at Wasilla-Aurora Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sonny James, Hosea Jimenez, Mike Jimenez, Chebon Jimenez, Wesley Jimenez and Tyler Jimenez.

Roberts was born Feb. 28, 1939 in Tacoma, Wash., where he graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in 1958. He retired from the Carpenters Union Local No. 1281 and was affiliated with the Baptist church. He was also a member of Teamsters Local No. 1313 in Tacoma and a third-degree Mason with the Lebanon Masonic Lodge No. 103 there.


He came to Alaska in 1970 working in Fairbanks with Carpenters Local No. 1281 on base. He worked numerous places all over Alaska and was in business with his son Hosea at Tomahawk Drywall.

“Richard liked to go fishing and hunting with his sons and grandchildren,” his family wrote. “Not many men are made like Richard these days with moral and family values, and old-fashioned ways. He had many qualities in him: gentle, compassionate, good hearted, loving, caring and patient. He was the greatest dad his children will ever know and will be truly missed. He went to be with the Lord and will suffer no more.”

He is survived by his wife Sharon Davis-Roberts; daughter Paulette Jimenez; sons Hosea Jimenez, Legus Jimenez and Michael Jimenez, all of Wasilla; son and daughter Craig and Cheryl Roberts of Tacoma, Wash.; grandsons Chebon, Wesley, Tyler, Michael, Kyle and Kaiden Jimenez, and Mario Daw, all of Wasilla; granddaughters Regina French, Kayla and Alyssa Jimenez of Wasilla, great-granddaughters Alayna French and Brook Eslick of Wasilla; sisters Dorothie Raymond of Camino, Calif., Arlene Bennet of Graham, Wash., and Betty Woods and husband, George, of Yelm, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Roberts and grandparents Arthur and Hazel Roberts.

Valley Funeral Homes and Crematory of Wasilla and Palmer is assisting the family.
