Cut the speed, save some lives

Please, please, please reduce the speed on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway to an appropriate 45 mph. Although the traffic lights were absolutely needed, it is not enough on this very busy road which has seen far too many fatalities.

Perhaps if the speed limit were reduced in conjunction with the traffic lights, we would not have to say goodbye to so many of our daughters, sons, mothers and fathers who are killed on this road.

Vehicle stopping times and distances in all conditions of the road during the year would improve.

Let us continue to improve several outcomes of accidents that do occur by reducing the speed limit to 45 mph.

I am also wondering, why is this road even named a highway? It runs from Palmer to Wasilla only. I wonder if the original intentions of naming a highway can now be overturned in light of the numerous accidents, public access streets and installation of traffic signals.

My heart goes out to all of the grieving families of loved ones lost on this road and to those who survived these tragic accidents.
