Roland G. Chadbourne Jr.

Roland G. Chadbourne Jr., 60, died July 11, 2008 at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage of lung cancer.

 A funeral service was held July 17 at the Palmer Highway Church of God. Pastor Steve Reem officiated. A memorial service will also be held in Galena at a later date.

Pallbearers were Peter and Matthew Chadbourne, Jeremiah Riley, Charles Burgett, Clinton Brown and Joe Demosky.


 Chadbourne Jr. was born July 17, 1947 in San Francisco, Calif. He graduated high school and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1976. He became an Alaska resident in 1973 and resided in Galena.

 He worked for the state of Alaska DOT, Galena Airport, Department of Defense, Civil Service, Space Mark, Galena AFS Steam Plant and for Galena City School District, as maintenance director. He retired April 1  from Galena City School District.

 He was on the Galena School Board for six years.

 He was a member of the NRA. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobile excursions, camping and building things.

 His family stated, “He was a beloved husband, honored father; Roland was the wind beneath our wings. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.”

 Roland is survived by his wife, Jill Chadbourne; sons Peter and Matthew Chadbourne; sister Lynne Meyer; mother Betty Ledbetter; uncles Neil and Daniel Chadbourne; aunt June Maeker; and a multitude of cousins.

 Arrangements entrusted to Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary.
