MAT-SU -- The candidate lists are final this evening after the close of the official filing period in Houston, Palmer, Wasilla and the Mat-Su Borough.

Clerks in those cities and the Borough stopped taking candidate registrations promptly at 5 p.m. today.

With the exception of a lively Wasilla mayoral race, the election will hold few surprises as both people running for Mat-Su Borough Assembly seats are unopposed, along with two unopposed residents seeking two of three available school board seats.

The race for Wasilla mayor has five men in the running, and Houston City Council has eight people running for four seats. In Houston, Paul Stout and Ralph Buzard are running for re-election. Current Houston Mayor Sandy McDonald did not file to seek re-election.

The following is a list of candidates posted after 5 p.m. Friday. Look for more coverage of the candidates in next week’s issues of the Frontiersman.

" I tried, your frontiersman wont post the names, and I am sure you already know who they are. you just want to be able to deny they are, there are 4 of them, take a stab at it "

" Gee no one played the “Life Long Alaskan” card – what’s that all about anyway. Couldn’t read a map to get out of here is all I can figure. Redneckiness seems to run wild with people so afraid of change or should I say color… or education. "

" Just remember you heard it here first folks. Some lunatic doesn't think that the Borough, the City, the State, his neighbor, the stray cats, or the wind has done exactly what he thinks is best so it must be that FOM's is responsible. Cursed FOM's! Where is superman when we need to stop the League of Evil Voters? I for one am going to make sure I wear my foil hat so they can't manipulate my thoughts any more. I hope its not too late.... "

" you hit the nail on the head, left wing anti development, they have the votes at the borough, how do like all the new anti ordinances , their sad land use code, they used to have all the greenie groups links years back but they got rid of them cause people figured out what they were, they website is all lovey dovey, but remeber the bumper stickers "friends of Mat-su, enemies of alaska" "

" since FoMS doesn't ever publish their membership list, how is it that so many people are just so sure they know who the members are? Or is this just our local modern day version of "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party"? Instead of slandering one another let's actually have a serious conversation about how to make our community a better place to live. We all deserve at least that much. "

" Oh drop the the FOMS crap. No one believes these loonies when they scream that FOMS is trying to take over the world and take away oh freedom, do they? After all these years this hysterical bleeting is getting pretty pathetic. "

" You want us to wake up but don't expound on what friends of mat-su are about or their purpose. Educate those of us not in the know so we can vote accordingly or at least understand the issues and candidates. I went to their website and their mantra seems to be citizen involvement on land use issues and ordinances. Is that all bad or are they leftwing anti-development? "

" Well, uhmmm.......... are you on the ballot? If not then why not? What people are tied to Friends of Mat-Su? I truly want to know. "

" looks like the friends of mat-su are trying to gain control in wasilla this time around, the borough isn't enough to control, 2 council seats and a mayor candidate, thats all we need in wasilla ,
    wake up people "
