Alaskans on the dole

Alaska rakes in much more in federal funds than it pays out. At the same time, its own residents are getting over $3,000 in dividends [including the one-time energy supplement]. That’s fine. Hopefully, it’s money well spent, but it does mean that Alaska is not a land of rugged independence.

Alaska is a dependent of the U.S. government and a dependent of all of us who pay taxes in the the largely urban, overwhelmingly Democratic donor states. You know us. We’re the ones currently being mocked by your governor for both elitism and community action!

For the sake of simple decency, Sarah Palin, her surrogates, her lobbyists and her party all need to stop asserting that they are morally superior to us, stop spewing vitriol at us and stop pretending to be agents of change in Washington.
