Somewhere on the campaign trail, while preparing for an important debate on Thursday, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin hashed out some answers to some tough questions from the media — again. But this time the GOP vice presidential candidate wasn’t answering questions posed by Charlie Gibson, Katie Couric or Sean Hannity. She did it for Kari Sleight, Greg Johnson and the reporters and readers of this newspaper.
Granted it had to be done via e-mail, a less-than-preferred method for most journalists, but the fact is Governor Palin took the time to respond to a newspaper with a circulation of less than 6,000.
It’s the first local interview Palin has granted the Frontiersman since being named to the Republican presidential ticket, despite reports Frontiersman reporter Michael Rovito was in Philadelphia recently questioning the governor.
Now, just for the record, that’s not the same Michael Rovito who asked Palin the question on Pakistan that ended up putting her in a position of responding perhaps contrary to the No. 1 man on the GOP ticket. That is, unless our Mike Rovito donned a Temple U T-shirt and hopped a plane to Philadelphia Saturday when we weren’t looking. Since Saturday was a deadline day, and our Michael was at his desk, we rather think there’s more than one in the world — although if you read the blogs (likely written by those who haven’t traveled from Alaska to the East Coast), you’d think there wasn’t.
Proving once again in this Palin media frenzy there’s no predicting what will happen next.
We are proud that Palin hasn’t forgotten her hometown newspaper as she tries to deal the multi-ring media circus.
We’ve asked Palin questions we thought you’d ask her if you had a chance — from how she’s holding up under the pressure to how she’s functioning as governor from thousands of miles away.
Look for our “exclusive” question-and-answer with Palin in this issue.

an African American or Native citizen interviewed on TV since the nomination. We see African Americans andNatives in the background of news pictures, we see them at rally againt Palin at parks but no speech no interview no opinions. Why is that?
Just so you know there are alot of African Americans at Richards and Elemendorf and many other business and homes who think then and now that Palin is the biggest political nit wit they have ever seen. Please give others a chance to speak. This is America. "

With the McCain campaign now running the State Government, what makes you think they would stop there. Sarah Palin is McCain's puppet.

A. Increase Couric's ratings
B. Decrease expectations for Palin's debate performance.
I want to believe that because I simply can not believe anybody that dumb can be elected Governor of any state and offered a VP slot by a serious candidate for President.
Enlighten me, Alaska. Is she acting or is she real? "

GIBSON: You said ... “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?
PALIN: You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.
GIBSON: Exact words.
But in context: "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right for this country – that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God, that’s what he have to make sure we are praying for..."
That's Gotcha. "

GIBSON: Do you agree with the Bush doctrine?
PALIN: In what respect, Charlie?
GIBSON: The Bush -- well, what do you interpret it to be?
PALIN: His world view?
GIBSON: No, the Bush doctrine, annunciated September 2002, before the Iraq War.
I am well enough informed that I thought of three different Bush Doctrines when I heard that exchange but still missed a couple versions, including the one that Gibson later said he meant. An objective journalist would have asked her view on anticipatory self-defense instead of testing her mindreading skills. "

The fact that libs won't (can't) be bothered with the truth, or are too friggin lazy to learn it for themselves, proves beyond any doubt that they are the dumbest people in the room and have no capacity for critical thinking or independent thought. Vote Democrat. It's easier than thinking. "

You gotta be able to do better than Palin. Those who support her ought to be upset with McCain for putting her into a spot for which she is so clearly unqualified. I actually felt bad for her when I saw the interview with Couric. It was embarrassing and all Americans should say "thanks, but no thanks, Sarah Palin". It is an outrage that she has even been considered for the job and an indictment of McCain's judgement that he thought she was the no.1 option for that job. Wow! Unbelievable! "

Charley Gibson and Katie Couric went very easy on Palin. There were multiple follow up questions either interviewer could have asked that would have torpedoed your girl.
If Palin can't handle interviews with those two, she needs to withdraw from the race. She accepted the V.P. nomination "without blinking" and now she should have to deal with the same scrutiny and questions other candidates in her position have had to. Brave? No, I would say ruthlessly ambitious, illprepared, and not ready for the national stage. "
