McCain-Palin to steer US in the right direction

Published on Saturday, September 27, 2008 10:40 PM AKDT

I know I am just one voice but I have watched the attacks in some of the media on your state, town, governor and her family with such disgust and disbelief that I am compelled to write to you. Please know that there are millions of us who have every respect for Alaska, her people and what she stands for in our American “quilt.”

In the spirit of Alaska lives the spirit that America was founded on. Of course, Sarah Palin is not an answer to all modern ills. She and her family are not perfect but live obviously by values that are much more representative of MOST of ours than of those on either the far left or far right fringes of society. I thank them, their families and your citizens for stepping up to the plate in what seems to be the most important election of our lifetimes.

Millions upon millions of us do not ridicule, criticize and demonize based only on what is outside our comfort zones. Personally, I cannot believe how unsophisticated and ignorant many are who pretend to be so worldly and knowledgeable. The vicious, uncivilized prejudice of the self-described elites merely shows them to be a big, huge NOT.

I grew up in a small town in Iowa. I am proud of that. I know what Arugula lettuce is but prefer hearts of Romaine. I live by my faith and know how to shoot a gun but “cling” blindly to neither. I don’t give a flying fig where someone’s ancestors come from but if they are Americans they need to be Americans first and whatever their descent is second.

I recognize a Monet when I see one but also a mare when she is about to foal and a grape ready to pick. I am an intelligent, well-rounded woman who is happy with my gender, deeply in love with my husband, confident that I am equal to him and secure in the reality that it doesn’t mean I want to be “the same” as him.

I had a baby when I was 17 and moved to California. That “baby” is now in his mid-30s, a wonderful husband and father and a self-made millionaire by the time he was 30 because America IS one, free nation under God with opportunities for ALL.

It is a sad and frightening day in America when a nuclear family that chooses not to banish a pregnant teenager or abort a child who will have special needs is judged so harshly by the very people who profess to be open-minded, progressive and peace-loving.

I hope we rise up and vote for the McCain/Palin ticket as I believe that will help us begin to steer our ship in the direction that is best for the MAJORITY in America.

Go America! Go Alaska! Go Governor Palin!

Wish you would post your thoughts on some forums in the lower 48.
Might be quite the eye opener for some voters, that are still stuck on the fresh face and winking eyes. "

We can't make someone keep their imperfect, untimely baby. Anymore than we can make someone go to heaven. But Sarah sets the example in my book of what is the RIGHT thing to do. And MANY angry women, especially, appear self absorbed and selfish when compared to Sarah's unashamed choices of life and family values. You can't be Christian AND pro choice. God doesn't approve of murder. "

I believe the fundamental issue with her is that she appears illiterate, ill-prepared, and sort of on coached auto-pilot when answering questions. I have yet to hear a real answer on a real issue coming out of her mouth or from her heart. If I hear her say "As John McCain says" one more time I will simply have to stop listening to her. If I want to know what McCain says I can listen to him. "

Team of greedy dopes. If he cared more about the country than his own election he would never have picked her. Similarly, if she cared more about the country than her own advancement she would never have accepted. They both know she's not the best selection for that job. She's nice, but the requirements are more than that for such an important position. "

Most of is here in AK recognize that the negativity in the posts about Sarah Palin are political in nature, blindly repeating remarks that have been made without fact checking, hoping to make a difference in an election. Your take on the whole picture reflects the feelings of so many in middle America. Sarah does have her detractors here in AK, but they represent a minority, those who never stop losing an election and start getting on with their lives. GO JOHN McCAIN/SARAH PALIN "

What is much scarier;the people that defend her! They are here to stay and they are getting dumber by the day, thanks to Rush and BillO and these very vocal religious fanatics. I almost hope McCain gets elected so these people can witness how fast this country can go to h..l under his regime.

I will move to Germany where they have had socialized medicine for 125 years and it still works fine and where education is still important. "

Obama went through it extensivelly and still is. Furthermore the McCain campaign chooses to keep her cloaked and sheltered from the public, thus letting the public get to know who she really is. On the other hand, the few interviews that she has done have been disasterous, and every time she opens her mouth their polls drop. Why? She is in over her head. "

I can almost see the American flag flying behind your editorial. It is an amazing story about your youth and your son. It's an American story. Congratulations.
Not everybody's teen pregnancies go so swimmingly. There are those who choose abortion for good reason, including HIV/AIDS, drug use(ever see a baby withdraw from narcotics?), cancer, threat to mothers life, etc. There are people who just should NOT have children for numerous reasons. They need CHOICE!!! They don't need Sarah Palin or remote Supreme court justices making their choice.
    Women's freedom means CHOICE!
    GO OBAMA!! "

The VP of this country needs to know the history of the US, the world and the fine details of governing. She has a BA in Journalism and many of her studies were just "general studies". She doesn't have the education or the experience to be second in charge and is certainly not prepared to take over in case McCain dies. "

Her support for victims being made to pay for the rape kit at an extremely vulnerable time is a stance virtually nobody would support. Why did Palin support it? Simple, it might prevent women from gaining access to contraception.

A women must carry her rapists fetus to term. That's Palin' idea of "choice". "

" I think your delusional to think that Sarah or Bristol are being criticized for making a choice about their pregnancies. But rather the hypocrisy of her beliefs of "No choice", and like-minded people congratulating them with the right choice. When the fact of the matter is did they really give themselves a choice. Because having choices is what "pro-choice" means. Yet she would inject her religious beliefs into any level of government to take those choices away from Americans. "
