Life-long Alaskan Robert Jacob “Jake” Pevan, 21, died on Oct. 4, 2008, in Wasilla. A funeral service will be held at Wasilla Bible Church at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9.

There will be a viewing just prior to the service from 3 to 3:45p.m. Immediately following the service there will be a time of fellowship held at the church. All who knew Pevan are invited to attend the celebration of his life.

Pevan attended Wasilla High School and graduated in 2005 from East High School. He was most recently employed as the delivery driver for Paragon Distributing and a bartender at Houston Lodge.

His family wrote, “Jake loved life and always had a smile on his face. He was an awesome big brother to his younger twin siblings and a great role model for others. He was wonderful with children and had many who looked up to him.”

Pevan also enjoyed spending time outdoors. He lived for playing hockey, snowboarding at Alyeska, wakeboarding on Seymour Lake with his buddies and he loved snowmachining and spending time with his family at their cabin in Petersville, his family said. He was also a huge “Voovie” (movie) fanatic.

“Jake was a very loyal friend and to meet Jake was to instantly become one of his friends,” his family wrote. “He was a great dancer, loved going out to clubs with his friends and he had a great sense of humor. He could light up any room with his presence and charming personality.”

Pevan was hard of hearing, and a member of and advocate for the deaf community. He was instrumental and helped bridge the gap between the deaf and the hearing worlds. He was great at facilitating the exchange of stories between his deaf and hearing friends.

Pevan’s family and friends said they have many fond memories of his selflessness, humor, compassion and kindness; he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Pevan was preceded in death by Doris and C.W. Reynolds, Leo Pevan, Steve Pevan, Kealee Andersen, Marge Oiler Stapleton, Irene Hunter Stapleton, Robert Stapleton, Edward Boitz, Hortense Boitz Fuls, Omer Fuls, Dodie Boitz and Scott Allen Boitz.

He is survived by parents Bob and Kari Pevan; his brother and sister, Kaulen and Kaitlin; paternal grandparents Pete and Sandy Pevan; uncles and aunts Rick and Jana Pevan, Tamara Pevan and Jason Pevan; maternal grandparents Gary and Susan Boitz; uncles and aunts Gregg and Kelly Boitz, Doug and Beth Boitz and Gary Boitz; as well as numerous other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a fund set up at Wells Fargo in the name of Jake Pevan. These funds will be used to support individuals within the deaf community, including deaf retreat camps, audiology and college.

Valley Funeral Homes & Crematory of Wasilla and Palmer is assisting the family.
