Who won last night's debate?

Published on Thursday, October 16, 2008 10:19 AM AKDT

Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama and Republican candidate John McCain met for the final time Wednesday night ahead of the Nov. 4 election.

So far, the major networks are calling the debate a win for Obama, and many blogs and YouTube channels have focused on what they call McCain’s apparent anger during the debate.

What do you think? There’s less than three weeks until election day, which candidate has done it right and which one should go back to the drawing board? Leave your comments below.

" Agreed Lee Franklin, it is the McC & Palin who put the focus on Joe. How sad too. The McFailin' campaign was so out of ideas the needed Joe "The Plumber" to give birth to their "Socialist" rant that has become the centerpiece of their stumps. Then they turn around and criticise dems for ruining his privacy. More hypocrisy. "

" Now that Joe the Plumber has been unmasked for who he isn't, McC and Pal are trying to blame Obama for ruining poor Sam's life. *cough* Excuse me, Senator McC and Governator Pal, who tried to use poor Samuel nowhere-near-to-$250K-income-per-year Joseph as a prop in his debate speeches? Who is STILL using poor Samuel not-a-plumber-and-not-an-independent-either Joseph on the stump?

The lies keep on coming, courtesy of the GOP candidates. "

" Nobama...you do realize you're perhaps the lone voice that's calling that debate for McCain. My guess is the only way your perception could be that altered would be if at the end of the 90 minutes you were just polishing off a Joe Six-Pack.

Dems have had congress for 2 years. How do you overlook 8 years of "Dubbya" and all the Republican controled congress' to pin the mess on us? You guys jacked it up so bad McCain can't even run as a Repblican, but rather has created some third catagory "Maverick." "

" McCain clearly won. Obama was on the defense the entire debate. Obama is wishy washy and indecisive about everything. Some of you people think you listen to the debate and all issues but you do not hear. OBama would clearly be a mistake. Who is going to tell him what to do? Biden? Hope not. The democratic congress and Barney DAH Frank is todays real problem. "

" Obama won. There was nothing McCain threw at him that he couldn't handle. He put Palin's "palling around with terrorists" accusation to bed for good. Even William F. Buckley's son is voting for Obama because of his "superior mind," which once again was in evidence.

BTW, would you please take Palin back forever? She is nasty and can't ever make her point without putting someone else down. And she is delusional about being cleared in the Troopergate investigation. Does she always lie like this? "

" For Sure "OBAMA" Sarah Palin has lost this campaign for McCain. Not that he ever had a great chance of winning anyway. She was just the nail in his coffin !

" I thought McCain won by not losing. He had Obama backed up, and taking a long time to respond. The moderator ran out of control and time. Otherwise more questions would be answered.

McCain nailed him as a Tax and Spending Socialist.

Obama didn't do well with Joe the Plumber, and changed policy overnight by saying "Joe's Fine" would be ZERO.

After that episode, today the Obama people started attacking Joe. "

" 250,000 for a small Independent contractor is laughable according to the licensed Independent contractor I know. In fact, I don't think Joe the Plumber IS Joe the Plumber at all. He's not licensed, works for another unlicensed Plumber, and owes the state over 1,200 in taxes from 07. And is he really going to buy the business from his boss? I think Joe was "moonlighting" that day in order to help pay those backtaxes and I expect we'll be hearing more about Joe and the McCain Campaign before the week is out. "

" Number One: McCain continues to be an embarrassment to a party I was going to vote for. Number Two: Gov. Palin tells New Hampshire crowd she was happy to be out there in the NorthWEST. Ugh. It is no wonder she is not out there like all other VP's in the past (open to all interviews and questions, etc)...she makes a fool out of our whole party constantly. Take her home Alaska...please. " McCain was and I expected, which was defensive, confused, and stammering. I'm appalled at his actions, his choice of a running mate with no experience, and his demeanor. I'm pleased it was the last debate. Even though I'm pro-Obama all the way, it was still quite painful to watch him struggle so much trying to keep up. "

" Yeah, good ole Joe the Plumber...except now it turns out he was going out of his way in an attempt to bust Barack's stones. Said he thought Obama tapped danced around questions like "Sammy Davis Jr." (do I smell a racist?) Unfortunately, it also turns out he's an UNLICENSED plumber who's not paying his taxes.

" McCain had the issues and the answers. Obama is talk, nothing to back up except more talk. McCain showed great wisdom in choosing Gov. Palin. Wasila's blessing now has been a blessing to the rest of the United States. To the Palin Family who will know what this will mean "for such a time as this." Blessings on the Palin family and their community. "

Joe plumber - $250K and he's whinning? We're in a economic disaster and he's singled out as a "Woe is Me" I will pay higher taxes by Obama's election? Shame on McCain, we all have our dream' whose paying for ours.

And ACORN, just like a exit poll, until election day only registered voters with ID vote.

McCain is so immature, and Palin, pathetic and embarrassing. McCain lost the day he picked Palin - Parnell will make a great governor. "

" ...continuing...McCain didn't need "close" in this debate either. He needed a convincing win to pull this out, as he's now polling slightly lower than the margin of error nationwide. 19 days is a small window to close an ever yawning gap. Good night old man. Good night. "

" I thought McCain was doing well @ start & holding even by halftime. In 2nd half I felt Obama was scoring more. All the polls & pundits seem 2 be saying it was close, but most call it for Obama. CNN iReports is calling it the same way I did: "Strong start, no win for McCain, iReporters say." I noted McCain’s periodic heavy breathing & didn't appreciate the dismissive looks & eye rolls, but that's just presentation. Focusing on substance, I felt Obama went 3-0 on him last night. "
