Concerned for children

My grandson visited us last night and told us he was concerned because his classmates at school were filled with prejudice, hate and fear of our president-elect.

They called him the same names we heard our governor use in her fight for the White House. Because the school district denied discussion of the political races in and out of the classrooms, evaluation of the debates or explanation of the antics of the pundits, these children were denied a wonderful education in the democratic process.

What a historic time and what a missed opportunity for educating the students on the democratic process and our elections. I was sad to see the Republican Party resort to (using) such horrific terms for the other candidates and now I am concerned with the affect it has had on the local school children.

We need to instill in our children a pride of our country, an understanding of the historic time they have just witnessed and give them a clear perspective of what was truth and what was not. How are these children going to learn honesty, integrity and the ability to make evaluations when all they hear is the roar of the Rush Limbaughs of the world? They deserve more.
