Wasilla resident Lucinda Lee Peterson-James, 39, died Nov. 2, 2008 at Marina del Rey Hospital in Marina del Rey, Calif., with her family by her side.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, at the Kenai Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 11471 Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. A reception will follow the services at the Peterson home in Kenai. Directions will be available after the services.

Lucinda was born Sept. 8, 1969 to Lamont P. Korff and Carleen K. Snyder in Astoria, Ore. She returned to Alaska when she was 3 days old and was raised in Thorne Bay. Lucinda graduated high school and attended college in Oregon. She married Darrell Lee Peterson in 1989 and together they had a daughter, Candace Linn-Ann and a son, Joshua Robert-Paul. Though Lucinda and Darrell remained life long friends, Lucinda married the love of her life, Gregory Byron James, less than a year ago. They were building a home on the beach in Mexico, where she found the peace and serenity that she had spent her life searching for. Having lived in Thorne Bay, Wrangell, Kenai, Nikiski and Wasilla, she had many loving friends throughout Alaska. She worked many years in the hotel and restaurant business, but she knew her greatest accomplishment was being a loving wife and mother. Her love for her husband, children and God were evident in every aspect of her life.

Lucinda loved all God’s creations and had plans to work for her Creator. Her dream was to go to less fortunate countries and help teach the people about nutrition, agriculture, and the love of God.

Lucinda had a deep love for nature and was happiest when she was in the woods, on the beach, or in the garden. She collected seashells, driftwood, unicorns, ceramic mushrooms, and pictures of wolves. When she wasn’t walking on the beach in Mexico or watching the sun set, she took great pleasure in reading aloud to her husband and sending cards and letters to her family and friends. She enjoyed drying wildflowers and making basket bouquets for her family.

Lucinda’s heart overflowed with love and kindness. She cried for those less fortunate that herself. Many times she gave her last dollar to help a person in need. Her home was always open to anyone who needed a place to rest or a meal for the hungry. She never met a stranger and everyone who met her, loved her. She lived her life wanting to serve others in the name of God. In her last message to her family, Lucinda wrote, “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain.” Most recently, Lucinda found joy and comfort in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and doing her daily studies gave her that peace that passes all understanding. She spoke often of her faith.

She was preceded in death by her loving aunt, Cheryl Dirkx.

She is survived by her husband, Gregory James and her children Candice Peterson and Joshua Peterson of Kenai; parents, Carlene and William McKillop of Wasilla; father Lamont Korff of Monroe, Ore.; sisters, Stephanie Gillen of Anchorage and Jennifer Korff of Wasilla; brothers in-law, Thomas Gillen and Randy Anderson of Wasilla; nieces and nephews, father in-law, Alan (Skeeter) Peterson of Nikiski and a large extended family, whom she loved unconditionally.

Memorial donations my be made in memory of Lucinda to the ADRA International, 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20904. (800) 424-2372.
