Looking at the recent election, the clear answer is both. Many things contributed to their recent losses and they need to quit acting like hillbillies if they want to be elected again. The obvious problem is their inability to understand the First and Second amendments.
The First Amendment discusses the separation of church and state. Republicans consistently try to bring religion into government. When good old Sarah Palin was asked if she opposed abortion, even in the cases of rape and incest, she exposed just how out of touch the Republican views are. If you think that religion should be running governments, take a good look at Iran.

Do I have the right to own rocket-propelled grenades and mustard gas (just in case I need them)? In the United States, we consistently have the highest murder rate and have Columbine-type massacres nearly every year. Every hunter I know prefers the challenge of using a more primitive weapon rather than using an AK-47 to hunt from a helicopter.
Believe me, you only need a shotgun to protect yourself, and little old Billy will have a much harder time sneaking it into school.

The second amendment wasn't about sports hunting when it was written, and it shouldn't be implemented on that basis.
Also, are you now outlawing helicopters?

Interesting you employ the terms "poor judgment". Perhaps you are unaware, but the use of "poor judgment" was the exact phrase used by the investigators in the Keating Five scandal, to describe the decision-making skills of John McCain, who played a spotlighted role.
This country is now in good hands--even McCain has admitted that. So you can relax a bit, Ann. Things may be tough going for awhile because of the Bush legacy, but we have reason to hope they will improve greatly with Obama as president. "

Thanks! All I wanted to hear was Democrats hold and accept some responsibility for the ecnomic crisis, not just Bush.
But thanks for the lecture on the war. Had Obama the Great been in the US Senate to actually vote against the war, maybe things would be different, maybe for the better.
I would like to ask him why he voted to cut off funding for troops still in the field. Let's hope this is not an indication of the poor judgment our new president is going to exercise over the next four years. "

Certainly, Democrats have some culpability, but not to the nth degree as you indicate.
Ann--we're at war--an illegal one, at that. This country goes billions of dollars under every month because of it.
It was Bush who pushed this war and enticed on board, reps from boths sides of the aisle--using false information.
You want to talk about economic downturn?
Share your concerns with Pres. Obama, who, by the way was AGAINST starting this illegal war.
You're in a dark place, Ann. Step out. "

However, the Republicans have always been known as the pro-big business and deregulation party. The Democrats are the so-called socialists.
The Democrats have had a majority of ONE for two years in the Senate....due to Lieberman. (No comment!) The Dems can NOT overcome a filibuster.
Simply put, we have had two years of a standoff....neither side doing much without the help of the other side.
We are ALL Americans.....and could have a GREAT country again if BOTH sides work together! "

The Bush legacy.
The economic meltdown largely caused by deregulation and out of control capitalism.
The American people's desire for change.
The choice of what many consider a poor pick for vice-president. Her intelligence, common sense, and basic knowledge of American and foreign affairs are not enough for the job.
The Rep. party does not appeal enough to minorities.
The Democrats won in my state that usually votes for conservative Republicans.

The 2000 election had a slim majority; not this one. This one was out of the ballpark! "

Most of what is said here is just that.
No relevance to issues that face us everyday.
By a slim majority we have elected a "wait and see" president.
Once he has acted, then we will have serious reason to be fearful of any neo socialistic programs or actions. We should be more fearful of the congress, who have no leadership. Until then we can just keep our fingers crossed that we become a better nation with the help of God, the one we have trust in as a nation. "
