I reckon “common sense” depends on your definition of “common sense.”
I seem to recall that back in the 1700s, the British Crown thought certain acts were common sense and proper. Those “intolerable acts” led to armed revolt against the existing government, the British Crown.

The second act will be to confiscate all handguns and all semi-automatic weapons — rifles, shotguns and, yes, this includes your pet Ruger 10/22.
The third act will be to tax (100 percent) all remaining guns and all ammunition.
The fourth act will outlaw gun shows.
And the fifth act will be to increase the Federal Firearms License fees by 500 percent.
The only reasons for registration are taxation and confiscation. Don’t think it will happen? Wait and see. Mark my words.

As Calo stated previously. "Our constitution guarantees our government is of the people, by the people and for the people." not of the person, by the person and for the person. We sometimes have to look out for the public good.

Not for anyone giving up privacy or rights. I don't think this is a privacy issue. We register and license all sorts of property from automobiles to getting prescriptions filled at the pharmacy. We do this for the "public good". Do you think that obtaining narcotics should be legal behind closed doors, because an unregistered gun sold to the WRONG person is just as dangerous as selling heroin or meth. Most people are law abiding citizens but we are now a country of over 300 million. Cont "

first, white man sends in alcohol and guns and alcohol as trade for furs etc.
gets natives hooked on alcohol, and tobacco.
liquored up indians used guns on one another, then white man assumes rights to govern indians to "protect them from themselves"and removes guns and liquor.
once they have crippled and destroyed the natives social structure, they steal their land right out from under their noses. then as a horrible gesture, give them back their liquor.
this has been a common practice for 300+ years.
it will happen with our guns too! "

Does that mean that if one of your guns and ammo is stolen you don't report to the police.
I would think that all your guns should be registered even the old ones. For YOUR protection in case of theft.
If the gun and ammo were properly registered it would give the police more info to solve the crime commited if solved return of your property after prosecution.
Seems to me that would be the proper thing to do to protect your rights.
Again your projecting about turning in ammo "

They don't want to just "spread the wealth around" in the United States- but the ENTIRE WORLD!
And tucked away in this "warm and fuzzy" sounding bill- is the right to take our guns! "

I'm also a gun-owner in Palmer and since I read the national news, I can state for a fact that gun rights aren't back-burner subjects for Congress. In fact, it's already been reported that several members of Congress are looking forward to the new administration to 'finally help' them bring about changes (restrictions) to your rights. Obama recently stated that he supports signing a UN charter that the US has refused to sign up till now because a part of it requires all signing nations to ban handguns. "

Nice to see there's somebody else in here who paid attention in history. Yes, one of Hitler's first acts after assuming total control was to enact a ban on the private ownership of firearms. But I think they'll be typically sneaky about it, like they do in California and Washington, and not try to ban firearms outright. They'll just ban all ammo containing lead 'for the environment', and then keep changing the definition of 'assault weapon' until almost every handgun fits the definition or it becomes too expensive for the manufacturers to build them to comply. Ammunition and gun sales will stop nation wide and gun shows will be outlawed. Those who have registered guns will be sent a letter to turn their guns in by a certain date or go to jail.
