I had to laugh when I read Howard Delo’s column, “Readings” on Feb. 17.
About a month ago I sent a letter to the editor wherein I predicted the agenda of the 4th Reich.
|
|
As I recall, I predicted that the first step would be national registration of all firearms. HR 45 is the first step. And, as any intelligent person knows, registration is followed by taxation, confiscation or both.
I believe my closing words in that earlier letter were, “Mark my words, wait and see.”
‘Nuff said.

LOL! Hit it right on the head with your posts! Thanks! (And I noticed the response you got was exactly what you said; No substance, just name-calling! To a loony lefty, everybody else looks like the crazy ones!)
But on a serious note; belay your fears! President Chosen One's policies of liberal-happy over spending, soft on terrorism and immigration, and removing rights will set everything right! He says so, so you know it's true! (Oops! I guess agreeing with you makes me 'crazy' too!) "

All this thinking for myself is getting tiresome. I'm thinking of becoming a liberal so I can give the government all my money (and my rights) so I can just kick back and let them take care of me. Oh, and this new economic model of getting out of the red by spending more money seems pretty cool. I want to look into that, too. Finally, let's give Al Quaida and the Taliban hugs and easy entry into the US so they'll become our friends. "

Oh my yes...aren't those Republicans tired of losing all the time? The majority has spoken! Just like when the majority of people in Russia supported Lenin and the new Communist government. Like when a majority of the Chinese wanted Mao, the Vietnamese wanted Ho Chi Minh, the Venezuelans wanted Chavez, Cubans wanted Castro...etc etc. And even here, in the US, we thankfully still have a large population of arrogant, egotiscal, pseudo-intellectuals that think the government is here to do it all for us! Way to go, 'Winning Team'! Thanks for the Socialism! "

-In California, they couldn't outright ban guns. So instead they have been aggressively redefining what constitutes an 'assault weapon' using barrell lengths, ammo capacity, type of breach, etc so that more and more handguns and rifles will fit the definition and therefore be banned. Also, they began the useless requirement of micro-stamping the casings (so now you just have to scoop up other's spent casings and throw them at a crime scene to pin somebody else). It's becoming so expensive for gun manufacturers to re-tool to keep selling in CA that many won't. Liberals win. "

You seem to miss the point of my argument - I do not advocate BANNING guns - but advocate registration, real background checks, control of sales at gun shows which in some cases is like buying them on the street (except you do it at a convention) and stopping the "Straw Purchase" of firearms that eventually end up on the streets.
We need to start somewhere - logic says less illegal guns available - those weapons won't be there on the street. "

As far as guns being the weapon of choice in this nation's murders...I don't know if the stats will back you up on that. And even if all the guns suddenly disappeared, criminals would still be doing what they do but with knives, bats, etc. just as they have been doing for thousands of years.
