A celebration of Alice’s life will be held at the home of her son and his wife today from 1 to 4 p.m. at 20828 E. Rd, Delta, Colo.
On July 6, 1930, Delores Alice Bouwens was born to Bernard and Myrtle (Johnson) Bouwens in Wabeano, Wisc. She spent her childhood in Wisconsin and Palmer. She enjoyed playing basketball in high school and this is where she also fell in love with her future husband. Alice graduated from high school in Palmer with the class of 1947.

Mrs. Holbrook worked in restaurants as a manager, cook and waitress. She enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and gardening. She was a Denver Broncos fan and loved to play solitaire games and gamble. Her other interests included crocheting, knitting and taking care of her poodles. The most important part of her life was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Those grateful to have shared in Alice’s life include three sons: Lance Holbrook and his wife Debbie of Delta, Garth Holbrook and his wife Freda of Washington state, and Ron Holbrook and his wife Tammy of Rifle, Colo.; four daughters: Delores Avila of Delta, Lana Soell and her husband Elton of Boise City, Okla., Marlene Fister and her husband Rocky of Montrose, Colo., and Melanie Baysinger and her husband Rocky of Rifle, Colo; four brothers, Bernard Bouwens of Paonia, Colo., Pete Bouwens of Lamar, Colo., Kenneth Bouwers and his wife Darlene of Belmont, N.H., and Dennis Bouwens and his wife Vickie of Craig, Colo.; one sister, Lora Green and her husband Vern.
She is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon; a son, Dean Holbrook; and two grandsons; Scotty Wiley and Chris Fister.
