Get behind the gun cause

To the editor:

No name was printed as the author of the misleading editorial on gun control in the March 1 Frontiersman. I find being anonymous suspect as to your real opinion on this subject. Nevertheless, I understand you don’t like HR45 (Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record Act of 2009). No self-respecting gun owner would like this legislative action, and we should oppose it will all our efforts and resources, but the author of this article is no friend to gun owners.

Contrary to the opinion of the author, everything is wrong with gun registration. Whether you use firearms to hunt, to practice proficiency with the weapon you use for self-protection, or use it to enjoy any number of the shooting sports, from Sporting Clays to Bull’s-eye Pistol Shooting competition. What’s needed is enforcement of the laws that are in effect. What’s needed is all states supporting the Second Amendment in unison. Not more registration, not more confusion between the states.

What is it in the words, “the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” that the author does not understand? Either support the Second Amendment as it is written with your whole being, or shut the heck up. You’re not helping. You’re making matters worse. You’re assuming all other gun owners agree with you by accepting registration in some instances. You’re wrong.

Get behind the cause.

Clarence Everingham

" I have lived in places with strict gun control (New Jersey and Puerto Rico) and now a place with little gun control (Florida)......and anybody that wants a gun will get one. Legally or illegally. Simply put, some registering of guns and a waiting period is a good idea...but complete gun control is a waste of time. ************ Right now, I do not see any great push towards taking away guns in "easygoing" states.... ********** Americans, especially in Florida and Alaska LOVE their guns...and the politicos are NOT going to tangle with gun loving voters.... " I think the most appropriate example of the success of legislation against guns is the District of Columbia and the ridiculously high gun-related crime-ridden pile of slop that it is. I live on the outskirts of said landfill and when I hear a bump in the night and this bump more than often is translate into a (most likely illegally owned) gun-toting crazy on a mission to rob me. Hopefully I'll get him the first time with my flintlock. "

" There is no authority granted to the Government under the Constitution to take away, nor has the mass public granted such authority..you can argue it all you want, but until you show a piece of paper that every individual has given up there rights the authority does not exist.all power comes from the constitution.not congresses legislation...they talk about interpretation, so if Billy sees it this way, and I see it that way, who is right?..the only correct way is history, and that is a protected right..The true teachings of government and history have went the way of the dodo bird. " In reply to the '2nd Amendment lives' comment...interesting logic. Hey, since several religions being practiced in the US weren't invented until after the US Constitution, I guess they shouldn't be protected under it either eh? Maybe all followers of a religion that didn't exist at the time shouldn't be included under 'Freedom of religion'? That makes as much sense as not including firearms that didn't exist at the time. "

Food prices are soaring as will fuel prices in the very near future. Our country has been sold as has our industry and we are being invaded by illegals. There is a breaking point and it is near. The last thing we need now is more gun laws. "

" The Arms that existed in the second amendment were 'Flintlock guns" -- Percussion caps, revolvers, maching guns (with the exception of the puckle which never caught on) etc., were not invented until well AFTER the US Constitution was written and ratified. So I think it's a constitutional right to own flintlock arms. The rest should require a license. Heck we make people have a license to drive a car why not to fire a gun? "

" Jim from Boston is the perfect example of the type of politics that ooze out from that state. Who said anything about a Kalishnikov? It's funny how liberals rarely have a leg to stand on in the debate over firearm rights, so you resort to extremes, exaggerations and outright lies. The 2nd Amendment guarantees our right to own firearms Jim. And it's NOT that 'muddled' or 'murky' as you anti-gun kooks try to twist it as appearing. Your Iraq example is weak at best. Most countries with restrictive gun rights enjoy higher crime. Fact. "

" Clarence, what don't you understand about "WELL REGULATED militia"? Why did you leave that clause out and fail to show the train wreck of a sentence we call the 2nd amendment in all its inconclusive glory?

Can any of you tell me why Iraq, a country near the top of the list in firearm ownership was never able to deft Saddam Hussein? I'm curious.

Here we have Wall Street stealing America blind and you think that can be resolved with a Kalashnikov. Real creative thought up there. "

" It does not appear HR45 will get far AT THIS TIME however in the event of a real or staged crisis(like the German Reichatag fire) or other "emergency" it could become active. Rahm Emmanuel states "no crisis should go to waste" and the Chicago Gang would waste no time in eploiting one at the expense of our Constitutional rights. With the many difficulties we face and the prospect of hyperinflation in the near future America is ripe fruit for a potential dictatorship. Seem impossible? Sinclair Lewis layed it out in 1935 with "It Can't Happen Here" Food for thought. "

A very good wake up call Clarence, thank you for your insight. The Anti's will advocate, as Boo does, to ignore and not to worry. Believe me, now is the not the time to ignore your surroundings, you do so at your own peril. "Get behind the Cause"! "

" Well put Clarence. Gun registration in the long run will end up with confiscation .It happened in Hitler"s Germany and could easily happen in Obama's America as the parallels are becoming more evident with each passing day. We must stand firm and "Just Say No" to those who would gut our Constitution. An armed individual is a citizen. An unarmed individual is a subject. Ask any German or Polish Jew. "
