The Colony High School volleyball program is hosting the Kim Lester Volleyball Camp at Colony High School.
The camp is divided into three divisions. The middle school camp, intended for students entering the sixth, seventh and eighth grades is scheduled for May 26-28. The introduction to high school volleyball, for incoming freshmen, is slated for May 26-29. The elite camp, for players in grades 10-12, is June 1-5.

Palmer High hockey hosting steak feed
The Palmer High School hockey program is hosting a steak dinner May 9 from 2-7 p.m. at the Palmer Moose Lodge.
The $15 dinner features steak, baked potato, salad, roll, beverages and dessert. Proceeds raised will support the Palmer hockey squad.
The event also includes auctions and a door prize.
Tickets are available from Moose players and booster club members, or by calling 745-2800 or 746-2172. Anyone interested in donating auction items also may contact those numbers.
The Moose hockey players are also holding car washes May 2, 16 and 30 at the corner of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway (Evergreen Avenue) and Glenn Highway, weather allowing.
Wasilla High hosting baseball and softball camp
The Wasilla High School baseball program is hosting a baseball and softball clinic April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The cost is $55 per player, and those ages 6-14 can participate. Players are asked to bring their own baseball glove and wear suitable clothing for playing baseball. Players are asked not to wear shorts, and bring a water bottle and a snack.
Parents of players are also requested to sign a waiver.
WHS in search of volleyball coach
Wasilla High School is in search of a head volleyball coach for the 2010 prep season.
Candidates are asked to submit an application prior to April 27. Those interseted can contact WHS activities director Paul Cossette (paul.cossette@matsuk12.us) or WHS assistant principal Dan Michael (daniel.michael@matsuk12.us) by e-mail.
Palmer High hosting volleyball clinic
The Palmer High School volleyball program is hosting a clinic on May 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Palmer High School. The camp is open to players in grades sixth through eighth. There is a cost of $25, and that includes lunch and a camp T-shirt.

Registration for Mat-Su Softball open
Team and player registration for the 2009 Mat-Su Softball Association season will continue through May 1 for teams and July 15 for players. Those interested can stop by the Mat-Su Softball Association office within the Hatcher Pass View Business Park Suite 111 at 4900 Palmer-Wasilla Highway.
There is a fee of $500 per team and $60 per player.
Teams can also sign up for the Mat-Su Umpires Classic, slated for May16-17. Tournament play is limited to Mat-Su co-ed teams. The deadline to register is May 13 and there is a fee of $100.

Sports center featuring Diaper Derby
The AT&T Sports Center is hosting the Stroller Strides Diaper Derby April 25 at 3 p.m. at the sports center.
The event is aimed to help raise funds and awareness for the need to vaccinate mothers and babies in less industrialized countries throughout the world.
The derby is separated into four heats: crawlers (under 12 months), assisted walkers (12-18 months) and runners (18-48 months). There is also a speed diaper changing contest for moms with infants not crawling.
The entrance fee for the race is the UPC label from a box or specially marked package of Pampers.

Sports center hosting cheerleading camp
Local cheerleading coach Chris Hebert is conducting a cheer camp May 26-29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the AT&T Sports Center.
The cost is $100 and there is a $25 camp registration fee for those who are not members of the sports center.

Sports center presents several clinics
The AT&T Sports Center is featuring a handful of sports clinics throughout the spring.
A speed and power training clinic, conducted by longtime local football coach Randy Magner started March 31 and continues through May 21. The sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5:30 p.m. The fee is $100 for every session.
The NBC Camps with coaches Fred Crowell and Jake Collins is slated for June 1-5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Boys and girls ages 7-18 can participate. The fee is $295.
There is a girls basketball camp, featuring UAA Hall of Fame basketball player Allegra Butler, June 15-18. Players in grades third through sixth meet from 9-10:30 a.m. and those in grades seventh through 12th meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
There is a $100 fee for all four days.
Wasilla High School head boys basketball coach Ryan Engebretsen is hosting a guard and post work individual position camp July 6-17. The guards meet from 9-10:30 a.m. and the post players meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is a $175 fee for all 10 sessions.
Palmer High School boys basketball head coach Jason Marvel will teach a basketball fundamentals class from July 13-Aug. 7. Boys and girls grades third through 12th are eligible.
There is a fee of $5 per session for members of the sports center and $10 fee for non-members.

Palmer High hosting hoops camp
Coaches from the Palmer High School basketball programs are hosting a spring basketball camp at Palmer High School, May 6-7.
Jason Marvel and Jake Collins of the boys’ team, and Paul Reid, of the girls’ team, will serve as the instructors for the camp, which focuses on the fundamentals of the game.
The camp is intended for boys and girls in grades third through eighth, and there is a cost of $30.
The camp tuition includes a camp basketball.
Players in grades third through fifth meet from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each day. Players in grades sixth through eighth meet from 3-5 p.m. each afternoon.

Mat-Su Miners in search of housing for coaching staff
The Mat-Su Miners are a looking for a good home for their coaches.
The local summer collegiate developmental baseball organization is in search of a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home for its head coach and two assistants.
The Miners will need the home from June 3-August 5. The team will pay for the rent and all utilities, and maintain the upkeep of the home while the coaches are staying there.
The coaching staff will be under the direction of Mat-Su general manager Pete Christopher and the Mat-Su Miners Board of Directors, and will conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism at all times

Volleyball club hosting camp
The Northern Lights Volleyball Club is hosting a summer volleyball camp June 8-11 at Palmer Junior Middle School.
Brent Aldridge, a coach at Division I Arizona State, is the lead instructor for the camp which is open for girls in grades fourth through 12th.
The camp is split into a pair of groups. The first section, the “expansion level,” with players in grades fourth through seventh, will attend the morning session, which focuses on fundamentals, individual training and court energy.
The second section, the “intensity level,” is for players in grades eighth through 12th, will meet in the afternoon session, which focuses on challenging competition, fast-paced and exciting play, and improved self-confidence.
There is a cost of $175 for the expansion level and $200 for the intensity level. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt, and those registering and paying before April 30 will receive a new volleyball to take home after the camp.
