With outrage I write this letter. Our president ran down our country while in Strasbourg, France. Ten of my uncles and a sister served during WWII. One lost his leg in combat and was in a POW camp until liberated. Two left blood on European soil and returned home with last effects from the wounds. Two of our sons have served this country. One finished 21 1/2 years in the Army, receiving a bronze star and seeing plenty of combat in Iraq. The other son served in the Air Force as an F-16 pilot in Iraq and the Alaska Air Guard as a C130 pilot on several deployments to Afghanistan. He is still in the Air Guard in Alaska. Our grandson is now serving in the Army in the military police at Guantanmo Bay in Cuba. All these people and all those who have served our nation deserve respect and gratitude. Not a one in my family has regretted their service nor dwelled on it after returning home. They served with honor and pride.
In Strasbourg, France, the huge cathedral has a bronze plate with the church thanking the Americans and our sacrifices and lives to secure their freedom and peace during WWII. We have several huge ceremonies throughout Europe and the United States with the remains of our brave citizens. They are truly moving sights to visit and respect.

I too am a trucker. You say he has the power to use the nations truck fleet in a time of need. READ the Constitution.
Article 2 section 1& 2.
Legally we do NOT, have a President.
We have a impostor, that is a RESIDENT in the White House! This clown and his Cabinet. They couldn't tell the difference between a tailpipe & turnsignal!

Ok, I get your point. You want all Presidents of the US to have experience in the military since they are Commander and Chief and might call upon the military to fight a war. Well, I am a truck driver and the President has the power to use the nations truck fleet in an emergency. Therefore, I believe that the President should have a background in trucking. Same for coal miners, defense industry workers, hospitals, airline pilots and the list goes on and on. "

what i have to say to them is; learn to read, and look it up yourself! "

Edward, you conveniently forgot the word HARM. To the military in 100 days. It must be the global warming, that has effected your thinking.

I'll say it again; I wish it was a requirement that you had to have served in order to be eligible for President. So yes, that would include Sarah Palin and Prophet Obama. As far as deragatory comments made at any time by any candidate (and yes, the Obama campaign tried unsuccessfully make them while still looking innocent) about McCain's service and sacrifice he made to this country; they are disgusting and demonstrate what a scumbag the person is who made them. I don't care what party they belong to or vote for. "

Even more ironic is the fact that McCain was portrayed as 'crazy' by the Bush political operatives in 2000 because of the torturing he endured as a prisoner of war. Talk about honoring those who served. How's that for gratitude? "

I don't see the bilittlement. I don't see the President attacking our country, trying to make us look bad, or anything other than re-engaging in world affairs. Please, tell me something specific from this event that offends. Then we can talk about it like rational people and move on?
Really...I'll wait. "

I couldn't agree with you more. I wish our Constitution included a requirement that any sitting president must have served. How can you have a 'Commander in Chief' that has never served a single day in the military? I served when Bubba was President, and we abhorred him. Heres who had the power to put us in harm's way without the perspective of having ever been in that position himself. We would laugh when he tried a time or two to 'talk tough' on TV. My brother currently serves and says it's the same way today with Obuma. "

it seems that our country is being taken away from us now.
I agree with your sentiment when you say "how can he become commander in chief, when he's never served" i agree, look what he's doing now, giving other countries our military secrets, condemning everyone in the military for prisoner interrogation. but to him it must be ok to blindfold, put in front of a camera, and cut their head off with a sword. but, those are his people! Thank you for your letter. I too served 6 yeas in the USMC, and have considered going back into the service however that has changed due to the current President. I can not in good conscience serve under him. Just him thinking about having the service members pay their own medical bills is a slap across the face to all who have served.
I still wonder how it can be allowed to serve as President if you were unwilling to serve yourself in any of the services. "
