Bristol is brave

To the editor:

Bristol Palin is a brave young woman. It would be easy for her to stay home in Wasilla, go to school, quietly raise her son, and do what is necessary to work out a parental visit schedule with Levi Johnston. However, she chooses to put herself in the public eye and opens herself to criticism in order to be a living example to other teens.

Bristol’s proved today by her teen pregnancy advocacy role with the Candie’s Foundation that she is indeed the, “strong, independent and kind-hearted young woman” her mother describes. She is her mother’s daughter.

My family wishes Bristol and her family much success.

Missy Stewart

Candies sells sex, so they are quite hypocritical about their abstinence stand. Many of their ads are inappropriately sexual. Therefore, Bristol should have chosen more wisely. Second, she has made unwed motherhood appear very attractive. Third, she has flip-flopped her stand on abstinence, and, no, it wasn't taken out of context. "

I truly hope she learns how to be a good mother and role model to her son. Whether or not she can sway teens away from sex and pregnancy remains to be seen. Abstinence sure didn't work for her. I wouldn't call her brave, but I'm willing to take the high road and say her heart is in the right place. "

She would be brave if she sat down with Levi and tried to work out their situation again without parental intervention.

Bristol should considor getting off the National stage and working with local organizations that deal with teenage pregnancies and support groups. "

That was very brave of her. She knew the criticism would come, yet she wanted to be a voice for other teens to help them avoid the situation she is in, raising a child as a single mom and going to school. Bristol is brave. Period. "
