Thanks for the support To the editor: April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Alaska Family Services and numerous community agencies, businesses and individuals observed Denim Day. Denim Day was a day to wear jeans with a purpose. There is no excuse and never an invitation to rape. Denim Day is an international protest that resulted from a case in Italy where a woman was raped. The rapist appealed his case, and in 1998 the Supreme Court overturned the verdict on the basis that the victim was wearing jeans and since they are so difficult to remove she must have cooperated. Alaska Family Services provides local support and referral for victims of sexual assault.
