Fairness should prevail in Faith columns

To the editor:

I was surprised to see the policy of the Frontiersman change to limit our Constitutional First Amendment right to free speech based on not castigating one segment of society.

The right to criticize what is wrong openly is the very foundation of this amendment. Ironically the Frontiersman used to allow people the ability to discuss both sides of various biblical topics and theologies. Howard Bess submitted many “pro-homosexuality” articles.

Apparently your new change in submission policy is really stating only politically correct biblical theologies are allowed. You’ll allow the most liberal and distorted biblical viewpoints to be permitted. Bess was allowed his viewpoint, but the opposite, widely taught biblical seminary viewpoints are to be suppressed?

I don’t know Mr. Hamman, but I read his article. Never once in that article did Mr. Hamman call for hating people who committed homosexual acts nor for cruelty against them as suggested by the letter to the editor from Shonti Elder. The Billy Graham Association 2009 campaign focusing on end times has taken the same position as Mr. Hamman, stating the rapid acceptance and rise in homosexuality, biblically identified as a sin, is a sign Christians are living in the last days.

The very basis of morality is to identify sin and teach against embracing it. I cannot for one moment think of a person in any sinful lifestyle who would not feel criticized or chasten when his sin was revealed as such, for this is the very nature of self-justification. Not allowing submission in fear it will chastise one segment of society is ridiculous.

Someone having various sexual partners while dating could be offended when told God says fornication is wrong. And the gossipper on television and in various magazines or tabloids would be offended when told their career was an affront to the living God. Ah, but you said any “one segment of society,” which would also include the murderer, pedophile, thief, adulterer, those practicing witchcraft, abusing drugs, drunken, and/or filled with selfish ambition. These would most undoubtedly feel criticized when told their lifestyle was biblically wrong.

Not offend sinners? There is no such Christian article. Either cancel the entire Faith column or allow it to equally present the truth as taught in seminary schools and the opposite viewpoint. But limit it for non-offensiveness, then cancel my subscription.
