To the editor:

Being new in my position as Superintendent of the Matanuska Experiment Farm, I wasn’t sure what response we would have to a planting work party. I would like to express my appreciation for the amazing amount of community support shown during our June 2 event, when the 18 plots in our demonstration garden were transformed from bare or weedy patches to flourishing gardens.

Special thanks to the Grange, Kathleen Asay, Grey Owl Farms, Sig Restad, the Domer family, Mat Su Master Gardeners, Hal Force, Matanuska Susitna College, Wasilla Walmart and our own staff and students who assisted.

The gardens are off to a great start and I invite the public to stop and view them this summer.

Jud M. Scott

Superintendent of Farm Operations

Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station
