Lifelong Alaskan, John G. Levan, 54, died June 18 from lung cancer at his Wasilla home.

No public services are planned. His cremated remains will be scattered at the homestead.

John was born Oct. 12, 1954, in Palmer. He graduated from East Anchorage High School in 1972. He was a self-employed mechanic/machinist.

Family members said: “John loved collecting and working on old equipment and machinery. He had an almost magical ability to repair just about anything. As a native-born Alaskan he loved the rustic self-reliant homesteader lifestyle. He was a man that placed the greatest value on the many friends he acquired in his lifetime. He was patient, tolerant, generous and kind, with a willingness to help anyone in need. He will be missed by all who loved him.”

Surviving are his spouse, Neena Levan of Wasilla; son, Daniel J. Levan of Wasilla; mother, Dolores Levan of Oswego, N.Y.,; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jim Arnold of Fulton, N.Y.,; brothers, Jay Leven Jr. of Alaska, and Henry Levan of Wasilla.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jay L. Levan Sr.

Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
