PALMER – The Matanuska Electric Association has selected an interim general manager.

At its meeting Wednesday, the association chose Joe Griffith, a former CEO of Chugach Electric Association. Griffith hasn’t quite been hired yet. First he and MEA have to hammer out a contract.

“At our meeting on the 13th, our regular meeting, we will hope that we will confirm our interim manager and go forward from there,” MEA board of directors member Janet Kincaid said.

Here’s a look at Griffith’s past:

• Griffith is currently an energy consultant, heading up Evan J. Griffith Enterprises.

• From 2002 to 2005 he headed Chugach Electric Association

• From 1989 to 2002 he headed up the association’s finance division

• From 1984 to 1989 he worked for the Municipality of Anchorage

• Prior to that, he retired as a colonel from the U.S. Air Force, where he’d flown fighter jets.

" You are missing nothing, Wonder Why. What you are witnessing is the final digestion of sour grapes by old-guarders who can't quite come to grips with the FACT that they've been wrong about so much, so often.

DeVilbiss has proven over and over that he has little regard or respect for ratepayers. Glines is just a follower. Next election, they're both gone. Then the house-cleaning on the board will be finished. "

" I would love to know why Glines and DeVillbis voted against Mr. Griffith? It seems, for over a year now, Glines and DeVillbis have voted in direct opposition of the other five board members, but have never been able to provide a supporting argument as to why. Glines is a well educated and experience military officer, yet he seems determined to shirk his duty in exchange for ego. DeVillbis has just been down-right rude at most of the meetings lately; preferring insults and yelling over rational debate. Please guys, tell me what I am missing here? "
