Speeding motorcyclist has trooper, police attention

PALMER — Alaska State Troopers and Anchorage police are looking for a motorcyclist with a penchant for running from the law.  The motorcyclist has eluded officers three times in Anchorage and once in the Valley, most times at speeds topping 100 mph.

In addition to the three Anchorage chases, police there say there were two other incidents that didn’t have a chance to progress that far.

“Twice we had officers turn on him but by the time they got turned he was gone,” said Anchorage police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker.

Authorities are looking for the driver of a motorcycle that resembles this Suzuki model.

Megan Peters, spokeswoman for the troopers, said that in June when the guy ran from troopers in Palmer, the trooper who spotted him was actually looking for a different erratic driver.

“He said he was sitting there and all of a sudden his radar screamed at him,” Peters said. The trooper didn’t see any speeders at first, but then, “the motorcycle blazed by him going at 90-something miles an hour.”

The chase proceeded from the Glenn Highway, through the roads in the Springer system, where the trooper’s car almost got smacked. Another trooper almost got hit on Industrial Way.

Eventually troopers broke off pursuit, Peters said, since the danger to the public had grown too great.

Anchorage police describe the motorcycle as a yellow Suzuki, believed to be a 2005 GSX-R1000. Its former owner totaled it and it’s been salvaged but not re-registered. It bears license plate 6987RP. The driver is described as a white male wearing a red, white and black helmet.

Parker said Thursday that tips had been coming in since he announced they were looking for the motorcycle earlier this week.

“Hopefully we’ll get something on it today or tomorrow,” he said.

" A thrill seeker baiting the police to chase him to a fiery end so his family can sue on his behalf- pathetic. "

" Yep, we saw him race behind our house up Inner Springer Loop. He flew by so fast I couldn't tell you what color his bike was. Then we saw the Trooper coming after him. What was disheartening about the entire episode was the "friendly citizen" that had pulled over and pointed the Trooper down the wrong road and helped the idiot on the bike get away. "
