The Palmer High school hockey program is hosting its second-annual hockey clinic July 20-24 at the Palmer Ice Arena.
Among the featured guest instructors are former Team USA national coach Al Bloomer, Alaska Aces standout Kimbi Daniels, former professional hockey player Chris Newans, former Aces and University of Minnesota standout Steve MacSwain and Eric Troisi, a longtime local prep and youth hockey coach.
The cost is $300, and players will see a total of 15 hours of ice time. The clinic will feature a heavy emphasis on skill development, and offensive and defensive concepts.

Palmer hockey squad hosting golf tourney
The Palmer Hockey Association will host the second-annual PHA Golf Scramble at Palmer Golf Course, July 17 at 1 p.m.
The 18-hole event includes prizes for best finish, best hockey jersey, closest to the pin, longest drive and the “Happy Gilmore” hole.
There’s also a barbecue and door prizes.
Entry fee is $300 per team of four (limit of 36 teams), or individuals may sign up for $75.
Donations of prizes and gift bag items are being accepted. PHA is a 501(c) 3 organization.

The event is a fund-raiser that supports the Palmer High School hockey teams.
WHS hosting football registration and clinic
The Wasilla High School football program is hosting registration for the 2009 prep season and a clinic July 22-25 at Wasilla High.
Registration is scheduled for 5-6 p.m. and the clinic is slated for 6-8 p.m. on July 22-23 and 25. The clinic runs from 2-6 p.m. on July 24.
The clinic, intended for players heading into seventh through 12th grades, is $40 and the cost includes a T-shirt and shorts.
The first day official practice is July 27.

Brett hosting learn to skate sessions
The Brett Memorial Ice Arena is hosting its learn to skate programs in July and August.
The sessions are schedule fo Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 7-16 and July 28- August 6. Those of all ages and skill level are welcome to attend.

The Brett also has individual instruction sessions where participants have the chance to learn skills better and faster, expand knowledge to incluide all disciplines of skating, and develop compeition presentation skills.
The sessions are from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A set of six sessions is $68. The package includes six 15-minute individual sessions and 45 minutes of practice time.
The Brett’s skatersize calls also continues on July 7. Each class is from 9-10 a.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from July 7-16 and July 28-Aug. 6.
Each class includes 15 minutes of off-ice stretch time and 45 minutes of on-ice interval training that includes basic skills, basic footwork and basic moves in the field.
There will be development of endurance, strength and condititoining, with a focus on cadence and control.
A set of six classes is $68.

Brett presents hockey program
The Brett Memorial Ice Arena is offering a hockey for fun program June 1 through July 24.
The eight-week program, that includes 16 total hours of ice time, is broken down into six different age groups. There is a limit of 30 players per age group, and players sign up in the age group in which they will play next season.
Each session will include time to warm up, work on fundamentals and scrimmage. Volunteer coaches and parents are still needed to help. All volunteers must fill out a volunteer application form prior to participation.
Players are allowed to pay a prorated price if organizers know prior to registration if the player will miss some of the ice times.
The cost is $80 for most age groups, and $100 for boys in the U-16 and U-18 groups.
The mini-mites and mites meet each Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The squirts meet Monday and Wednesday from 6:45-7:45 p.m. The pee-wees meet Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The bantams meet Tuesday and Thursday from 6:45-7:45 p.m. The boys midget U-16 and U-18 players meet Monday and Wednesday from 8-9:15 p.m. Girls in the U-12 and U-18 groups meet from 8-9 p.m.

Houston High School is in search of a head volleyball coach for the 2009 prep season.

Sports center presents clinics
Wasilla High School head boys basketball coach Ryan Engebretsen is hosting a guard and post work individual position camp July 6-17. The guards meet from 9-10:30 a.m. and the post players meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is a $175 fee for all 10 sessions.
Palmer High School boys basketball head coach Jason Marvel will teach a basketball fundamentals class from July 13-Aug. 7. Boys and girls grades third through 12th are eligible.
There is a fee of $5 per session for members of the sports center and $10 fee for non-members.
