Greg ‘Smokey’ Dale Moff, 62, died April 21 in Olympia, Wash. He was born Sept. 3, 1946 in Spokane, Wash., to Ray T. Moff and Gloria (Hall) Moff.

Smokey lived in many places during his time, but in his heart, Alaska was always home. He moved to this great state in the ‘70s, stayed through the ‘80s and then was back and forth between here and many other places until he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

He loved to fish, hunt and trap among many other things, but his one true passion was sled-dog mushing. Everyone who knew him knew all about the dogs.

He will be greatly missed by his friends, fellow mushers and most of all, his family.

Smokey was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his children, Michael and Sara Moff of Shelton, Wash., Amanda Moff of Shelton, and Deana (Moff) and Micah Mease of Wasilla; grandchildren, Christina Lee, Jamee Elizabeth and Aryana Noelle Mease all of Wasilla, and Jorja Emmilee Moff and Ashlee Elizabeth Bush both of Shelton.

A memorial service was held at Gateway Christian Fellowship Church in Shelton on April 25. The family was served by McComb Funeral Home in Shelton. If any one would like a memorial picture, please contact Deana Mease @ litetheweigh@yahoo.com

" I have good memories of Smokie on the dog trails and fishing out on the Yukon River. He was a great story teller and some of the advice he gave me was very insightful. He often said we needed to keep things simple. Pretty good advice in this complicated world. He will be missed.

My thoughts are with Smokie's family. Smokie was truly a great guy. One of a kind for sure. "
