Health care reform needed

Published on Thursday, August 13, 2009 6:40 PM AKDT

To the editor:

1. U.S. has the poorest quality health care of all the industrialized nations.

2. U.S. has the most expensive health care of all the industrialized nations.

3. U.S. provides the least amount of health care to its population of all the industrialized nations. One-third of all Americans do not get any health care they need.

4. U.S. life expectancy is 2.5 years less than any of the industrial nations.

5. U.S. has the most expensive medication costs of any of the industrial nations.

The U.S. is the richest nation in the world and has the least concern for the health of its citizens.

If we combine Medicare, Medicaid, Indian health and veterans health into one agency, there is enough money to provide health care for every American.

Listen to a military families horror stories of misdiagnoses and waiting times for treatment. Does anyone really believe our care will be any better than our soldiers? Please people think with your brain instead of your heart. We'd love to save the world too, but we likely won't ever do it. There will always be good and bad, you can't fix that no matter what. "

What makes anyone believe that they are capable of taking over healthcare? I mean seriously I will take the 2.5 years less life expectancy over the option of the government having anything to do with my families health care. I'm willing to pay more to keep them out of my health care. You just wait when you have a heart attack and have to take a number and wait 30-60 days for assistance. "

But while the rich got much richer, there was little sustained economic improvement for most Americans. By the late 1980s, middle-class incomes were barely higher than they had been a decade before — and the poverty rate had actually risen.

" Everyone is different. Some die young, some die old. I have a couple aunts and uncles near 90 years old.

I figure I have the best Medicare Advantage insurance TODAY. TOTALLY IN DARK ABOUT 2010 "if" HR3200 were to pass.

Today heart surgery (stents to clear arteries) costs est. $250,000. My bill would be $25 for Emergency Service plus Drug costs to recover from surgery (est. $300). Ain't so bad. Don't hurt my wallet!

With HR3200, they'd assess whether I was worth saving. De Facto "Death Panel" because I don't eat the $250,000 bill. "

" The U.S. has the best Healthcare in the World. Thumbs Up. NO DOUBT. All the hysteria is fed by Obama and Liberals paid by Union bosses to pass tough Federal Pro-Union laws to close any company if Unions strike. It won't stop there.

    "Death Panel" / Sarah Palin
HR3200 doesn't say "Death Panel". But mandates end-of-life talk to the insured over age 65 every 5 years. HR3200 has time released mandates passed to States on Medicaid etc. Then there will be "death panels" like those in Oregon where they have a "limited Euthansia State"; and other States. "
