The culprit is a lack of natural gas.
MEA officials say there were two near misses last winter and the availability of gas this year isn’t any better. So we can hope for a mild winter, or we can start getting used to making sacrifices.

Another is turning off lights when they aren’t needed. Those curly bulbs are coming down in price and use about one-third of a regular bulb and last far longer.
There are many more tips.
Close the doors on rooms that aren’t being used so you are only heating the part of the house that is occupied.
Pull up the shades on south-facing windows and let the sun do warming. Then at night cover the windows with shades to keep heat in. Sealing windows with plastic wrap also helps keep the cold out and heat in.
Consider cooking more with a microwave oven. It may take some practice, but a microwave is far more efficient than an oven or stove.
Wash clothes in cold water and large loads. Most garments clean just as well in cold water and that pays dividends by not using the hot water heater.
Take showers rather than baths. To go a step further, take a Navy shower. Described by howstuffworks.com like this: In order to conserve fresh water on-board ship, sailors stand in the shower, get wet, shut off the shower, soap up, and then turn the shower back on to rinse off.
There are lots more information on the Internet to help people conserve energy. With fall in the air, this is a good time to rehearse for winter. Taking steps now will help you get rid of some bad habits and make energy conservation second nature when the temperatures turn subzero.
If these attempts to be more energy efficient seem inconvenient, think about how inconvenient it will be to go hours without electricity in December. Businesses will have to close. No TV, computer, DVD or video games. And the plumbing will freeze. That’s inconvenient.

Candles - for a safer place to burn them use a small aquarium filed 2-3 inces with sand or gravel . We have gas heat and stove so we're set for heat. "

Not even close, Frontiersman, the culprit is a corrupt MEA board working in league with radical anti-human forces in the environmental movement who have conspired in a phony climate hoax involving a trace atmospheric gas that has no effect whatsoever on earths climate.
There is no excuse for this quandry. We have a 1000 years of cheap clean energy right under our feet, and who is standing in the way of it's use?
Clean up the Borough this October, and next year, clean up MEA. "

The minute the gas shuts off, I will be stuffing free coal and wood into my wood stove, and running a genset off some used oil and bunker fuel. Oh yeah, I got some old RR ties and treated lumber for 'reserve' fuel. Don't forget, tire shavings can be used as fuel too, and beluga blubber. "

Dont depend on others to keep your family warm and safe. Establish ways to heat your home yourself with kerosene stoves or generators with enough fuel for a day or two. Have food at the ready that can be eaten with little or no heating and water in reserve for when the well pump does not run.
A little preperation is worth it ! "

Now we will have power problems and not unexpected either. If there was only a way for them tol suffer this poor decision more than the rest of us.
Another example of why they should be voted OUT ASAP!
We can not have an expanding economic base without power ! "

Sarah Palin failed us, Sean Parnell is not going to do any better, and our elected representatives have all failed in their obligations in this regard.
