Susan “Susie” Catherine Tolladay, nee Scheibl, 59, passed into the arms of her Savior on Sept. 7. A victim of kidney cancer, she succumbed in the home she loved, surrounded by many members of her family.

Born in her grandmother’s bed on Sept. 18, 1950 in Pittsville, Wis., her family relocated to Palmer in 1952. Graduating from Palmer High School in 1968 she continued to live the majority of her life in Anchorage before moving to Winnemucca, Nev., in 1997 and later to Pahrump, Nev., in 2004.

Susie’s vocation and her passion, was to care for her home, family and friends. She cherished her role as a homemaker. She enjoyed writing, listening to classical music, and had a profound reverence for the natural beauty around us, especially flowers and scenic vistas. Susie was a caring and compassionate woman who searched for and found the best in others and possessed a special affinity for the aged.

She was a former member of the International Air Crossroads Lions Club of Anchorage and current member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Sassy Red Hats, and served for several years as a volunteer for Nathan Adelson Hospice. She loved and served God and attended Central Valley Baptist Church.

Susie is survived by her husband of 18 years, Nevada Chris Allen Tolladay of Pahrump; a daughter, Sandy (Bill) Allen of Yakima, Wash.; a step-son, Scott (Carol) Tolladay of Brigantine Island, NJ; her mother Rosella Scheibl, sister Nancy (Danny) Hansen, brothers Carl, Steven and Gary Scheibl all of Palmer; brother Danny Scheibl of Fairbanks; brother David Scheibl of North Las Vegas, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Allan Gustave Scheibl.

A celebration of Susie’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at St. Martin’s in the Desert Episcopal Church in Pahrump. No funeral service is planned. In death as in life, Susie elected to serve others by willing her body to science.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Nathan Adelson Hospice would be appreciated.
