HOMER  — Wasilla senior Christian Long used a pair of wins to help lead the Wasilla Warriors boys swimming and diving team to a second-place finish at the Homer Invitational in Homer on Saturday.

Long finished first in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 500 freestyle during the 11-team invitational.

Longs efforts helped the Warriors finish with 64 total points, four shy of first-place Kodiak. Long used a time of 59.18 seconds to win the 100 backstroke. He finished more than seven-tenths of a second ahead of second-place Micah Stocker, of Eielson.

In the 500 freestyle, Long’s time of 5:06.73 was 28 seconds better than second-place Clinton Steger, of Eielson.

Long’s teammate, senior Jeff Frey, also won an event for the Warriors. Frey finished first in the 100 breast stroke, with a time of 1:04.81.

The Warriors also won the 200 medley relay.

Frey was third in the 200 freestyle, Kevin Snavley finished third in the 200 butterfly and Dylan Spargo was fourth in the 100 breast stroke for the Warriors.

Nicholas Brunger led the Colony Knights to a ninth-place finish in the team standings with a win in the 50 freestyle. Brunger posted a time of 24.15 seconds. Dylan Wannamaker, of Kenai, was second at 24.28.

Riley Newman led the Moose with a third-place finish in the 100 breast stroke.

In the girls’ races, Wasilla senior Karina Barria finished first in the 50 freestyle. Barria recorded a time of 26.16, while second-place Elyse Johnston, of Kodiak, finished at 26.32.

Barria also finished fifth in the 100 freestyle to lead the Warriors to a sixth-place finish in the girls standings.

Mariah Schachle was second in the 1-meter dive for the Warriors. Wasilla’s Hillary Graham finished sixth in diving.

Katelyn Payne led seventh-place Colony with a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
