ANCHORAGE — The Tesoro Iron Dog is history. But the world’s longest snowmachine race won’t be disappearing anytime soon.

Tesoro Corp. will not be the title sponsor for the 2010 Iron Dog, race development director Heidi Griffin confirmed Monday afternoon. But the race will undoubtedly start as planned Feb. 21 in Big Lake, Griffin said.

“The way it works, we don’t necessarily have to have a title sponsor,” Griffin said. “It definitely does put us in a little accelerated gear to make sure we have sponsorships.”

The Iron Dog had a 10-year partnership with the petroleum refining company before Tesoro opted to pull its commitment as title sponsor.

Based on that long relationship, Griffin said the news is, “a little bit of a shock.”

" Obama yanked the drilling rights away from Tesoro, so they had to cancel their sponsorship.

or was it Bush's fault again? "

" Am I missing something here or are you folks all just sad, sad people who have jumped on an unrelated story to your personal & political complains? Why not go grab a coffee and solve the worlds problems yoursleves. Shame about the sponsorship. Time sho' is tight. "The Dog's" a spendy sport in a small market. Such is business life. I'll bet a buck that the Cities ain't gonna foot the bill to cover it. See you on lake? "

maybe the Palins can sponsor it-

It will be known as the CONSERVATIVE KIND-OF FAMILY VALUES CHRISTIAN RIGHT WING ZEALOT IRON DOG.

Kind of long....may have to shorten it. "

" No WOW fool. I'm simply looking out for my wallet because when there's a gap in funds, the trend is to expect government to pay for it. The Palins are perfect examples of using position to pay for their lifestyle (ie., travel, clothes, living in Wasilla instead of the governor's mansion, etc.). You might read a dictionary to see the meaning of the word jealous or get an education above the 6th grade level. Then and only then will you understand the meaning of the word jealous. I'm simply wathcing out for us taxpayes - even morons like you. "
