Duhamel, Doyle best for school board

To the editor:

The children of this community deserve a school board that is committed to providing the best possible education to each and every student. The future of our community rests with the students of our district. It is common knowledge that communities with quality educational opportunities attract families that are committed to building a stronger, safer community.

Having independent thinkers serving on the school board is essential. They cannot be the voice of organized employee groups nor should they be the voice of campaign contributors from outside our community who have no vested interest in the education of our students. We need to stop electing board members whose sole purpose for serving on the board is their future political aspirations. Our students should not be “stepping stones” for someone’s self-interest. And we need school board members with strong ethics.

What a wonderful opportunity we have to elect some folks who have proven that children come first. Jamey Duhamel is a true advocate for children. Her experience as a three-year volunteer with the district budget process has given her an insight to impact of dwindling revenues and escalating labor costs. Bob Doyle is another candidate who would serve the district well. As chief school administrator, he worked to lower class sizes, provide more offerings and opportunities for all students, and focused on safe learning environments. Under his administration we saw great things happening in the classroom.

The Mat-Su School District needs to be known for the outstanding achievements of our students and staff. The students deserve the best we can offer. I urge you to vote for school board candidates who believe in our students.

Gary Munoz

" Thanks for the comments from all the bloggers. I don't know either of these people, and I now know I will NOT vote for Doyle! And Thanks Frontiersman, for providing this opportunity. "

" It seems to me that the only one who doesn't have a questionable history here is Jamey Duhamel. I went to her website and she has done a lot of work for children for a long time. She seems the safest and most logical choice. "

" So Doyle does his thing as superintendant and then lays low hoping people forget. There were plenty of questionable money transactions. We don't need him or Dunleavy (check his former job) or Anderton (NANAs man-custodian outsourcing). Fear and corruptness reigned "

" Wow it's great to be loyal to your wife's former boss, Gary; however the people of this valley have suffered enough of the likes of ill tempered and money wasting Bob Doyle. He left the district in dire straits now he wants to come back and cause more mayhem on the school board. I can't believe he thinks his incredibly bad baggage won't be a huge problem in tricking people into voting for him. The valley deserves better leadership. If Dunhamel is also Gary's pick she may be as foolish as Bob. "

" I can't commment on Duhamel but please Doyle. Doyle did a good job messing up the schools being an administrator there is no way he should be on the schoolboard same goes for Jim Colver running for the assembly if you want to see your taxes go a lot higher just elect these two tax and spenders. "

" What great things did Mr Doyle ever do for the Mat-Su Schools? If you call closing schools all summer in 06, outsourcing custodians, firing bus drivers so our kids don't have a choice for sports activities and being a mean, rude person then I guess he was great at that. Wise up! Check the facts. "

" I think a lot of us have a bad taste in our mouths over the janitorial outsourcing, but I don't want people confused thinking Bob and Jamey are of the same mind.

They are two very different people. I have full confidence in Jamey and she has my vote. "

" I don't know Mr.Doyle but I have worked with Jamey and seen her in action many times. She is very smart and great at leading groups of people. She coordinates a huge public event every year for child abuse awareness. She really does care about kids. Yeah Jamey! "

" Mr Doyle was on the band wagon to outsource the custodians and bus drivers in the Mat-Su Schools. People are still recoving from Lay offs and law suits. Don't be fooled and read the facts before you vote. He has his own agenda and its not for our children. "

" I don't know Jamey Duhamel so I won't comment on that portion of your letter Mr Munoz, but I do know Bob Doyle and he is not the person you are trying to portray...he proved this during his stint as the school district's "chief administrator". He is a bully, especially towards women and has no business on the school board. We need adults on the school board who treat each other as equals and with respect. That would not be Bob Doyle! "
