Margrit (Maggie) Stutz Imhof, 70, of Palmer, died Sept. 19 at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Imhof was born in Switzerland in 1939 and moved to the States in 1960, where she met and married Peter J. Imhof in San Francisco. The family moved to Alaska in 1968 where they bought and ran a restaurant in Eagle River called Maggie’s Place. After that, Mrs. Imhof worked as a cook at McLaughlin Youth Center for many years and then retired.

Maggie loved Alaska and the similarities it has with Switzerland. Her hobbies were gardening, her flowers, cooking, bingo and she loved going to Reno. She had a wonderful personality and she never knew a stranger. Her contagious smile gave her the nickname “Sunshine.”

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Peter J. Imhof; survived by her brother Leo and sisters Hanni, Marianne and Elizabeth of Switzerland; children and spouses, Pete and Debbie Imhof and Frank and Debbie Imhof of Wasilla; grandchildren Christina and Jennifer of Great Falls, Mont.; Stan, Deirdre, Lauren and Sean of Wasilla; and great-grandchildren McKenzie, Clayton, Emma and Cameron of Great Falls and Chloe of Wasilla.

Special thanks to Joan, Maggie’s good friend from Valdez, who helped care for her, and Anna along with hospice for their outstanding services.

There will be no services. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue where she adopted her wonderful companion Susie.

Arrangements are under the care of Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.

    " Maggie and Pops,
The memories of the two of them together will be forever cherished in my heart. I waited on them at George's for years, where we laughed until we cried. After Pops passing, she would always laugh about being "stuck here". I bet she is gonna get him now. With a tender heart, I am glad to hear they are back together again, up there looking down and laughing together again.
My heart goes out to the Family during this trying time. God Bless You
    Jesse "

" Maggie always had an uplifting and positive attitude, even in the face of adversity. Her friendship was greatly valued, and all her friends at the Roadside will miss her. I will always pick number 8 for Maggie! One statement she made I will never forget: "When I get up there, I'm going to kick my husband in the a_ _ for leaving me behind!" God bless!
