Mary L. Dietz Mary L. Dietz, 62, passed away at her home Oct. 7. She was born in Maywood, Calif., the daughter of Wayne and Edith (Bankhead) Douglas. Mary traveled extensively and originally came to Alaska in the 1970s. During that time she worked at Self’s Chuckwagon Café and Flapjacks in Anchorage. For 10 years she lived in Carlin, Nev., and returned to Alaska in 1996 to be close to her daughter and newest granddaughters. Most recently she worked at Jackie’s Restaurant on Spenard Road in Anchorage where she developed a dear friendship with the patrons and the owner. Mary loved spending time with her family. Every part of her life revolved around either her daughters or granddaughters. She was careful to teach them to enjoy life to the fullest and live each day as if it were their last. None of them doubt the love she carried for them in her heart — a heart she recently rededicated to the Lord. Mary is survived by her daughters, Donna Conway and her husband Lance of Wasilla and Nicole Chambers of Elko, Nev.; granddaughters, Alexis C.M., Britney T.I., Jennika F., Jessica H., Amanda G.C.; siblings, Georgia, Betty, Ivia, Carol, Darrell, and Donna; previous husband, Jack Chambers; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; two husbands, Kenneth Tait and Gary Dietz; and long-time partner and companion, Donald Munday of Winslow, Ind. Mary’s life will be celebrated at 3 p.m., today at the Church on the Rock in Wasilla with the Rev. Scott Frerking and Rev. Dennis Hotchkiss officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Girl Scouts Susitna Council, 3911 Turnagain Blvd. E, Anchorage, AK 99517. Arrangements are under the care of Valley Funeral Home, Wasilla. |
