Jackie was born Oct. 31, 1938 in Refugio, Texas, to Elmo Ross and Bertha Mae Cumi (Weaver) Deckert. He grew up and attended school in Pleasanton, Texas. On April 4, 1957, Jackie married the love of his life, Beth Riley, and entered into a union that would last more than 52 years. He retired from B. J. Hughes in 1983; from Baker Petrolite in 2006.
His devotion to his family provided him with fierce drive and will. It enabled him to realize his dream of acquiring property to have something to leave his family. He was so very proud of his children and their accomplishments; Steven, with his family living the Alaska dream, and his daughters, Marsha and Carolyn for their efforts and pursuits in becoming the strong, educated women they are today. Jackie was especially proud of his four grandsons for becoming Eagle Scouts and also loved telling people about his granddaughter Brandi, the teacher. Although he may not have been perfect, he always took great care of his family, friends and everyone around him.
