Frank Ross “Jackie” Deckert, 70, of Victoria, Texas, died Oct. 14 in Victoria. Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Heritage Funeral Home of Memory Gardens in Victoria. Allan Cheatam will officiate.

Jackie was born Oct. 31, 1938 in Refugio, Texas, to Elmo Ross and Bertha Mae Cumi (Weaver) Deckert. He grew up and attended school in Pleasanton, Texas. On April 4, 1957, Jackie married the love of his life, Beth Riley, and entered into a union that would last more than 52 years. He retired from B. J. Hughes in 1983; from Baker Petrolite in 2006.

His devotion to his family provided him with fierce drive and will. It enabled him to realize his dream of acquiring property to have something to leave his family. He was so very proud of his children and their accomplishments; Steven, with his family living the Alaska dream, and his daughters, Marsha and Carolyn for their efforts and pursuits in becoming the strong, educated women they are today. Jackie was especially proud of his four grandsons for becoming Eagle Scouts and also loved telling people about his granddaughter Brandi, the teacher. Although he may not have been perfect, he always took great care of his family, friends and everyone around him.

Jackie was also an extremely hard worker and was known in the oil field business as a “hand.” This was a compliment in the highest, one he deserved and of which he was quite proud. It has been said that Frank gave 110 percent and could outwork men 20 years younger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Bertha Deckert; his sisters, Barbara Thompson, Shirley Ham, and Earlene Cumi Deckert.

Jackie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beth (Riley) Deckert; son, Steven R. Deckert and wife, LaDelle, grandson, Maverick Deckert and wife, April and their sons, James and Andrew and grandson, Cassidy Deckert all of Palmer; daughter, Marsha D. Deckert of Victoria; daughter, Carolyn McConnell and husband, Earl of Victoria, along with grandchildren, Michael McConnell and wife, Stefanie of Bedford, Texas, Brandi Conway and husband, John, great grandson Cash Conway all of Corpus Christi, Texas, and grandson, Travis R. McConnell of Victoria; brother, Marvin Deckert and wife, Florence of Pleasanton, Texas, and sister, Esther Mae Everet and husband Nelson of Whitsett, Texas, along with many other relatives and friends.
