But on Saturday, Fox had the opportunity to get back at Miller during a rematch. And Fox won when it really counted.
The Wasilla sophomore scored late near-fall points during the final seconds of regulation, and edged the Dillingham grappler 9-7 in the 112-pound final of the Lancer Smith Memorial at Palmer High School on Saturday.

“My head was more in it today,” Fox said after the match. “I was really trying to keep my composure together.”
Fox, who used a takedown near the edge of the mat to tie the score at 7 with 12 seconds left of the third, was one of three Warriors who advanced to the final round, and part of a Wasilla squad that finished second in the team standings with 210.5 points.
The Colony Knights, who placed five grapplers in the finals, grabbed the team title with 269 total points.
Seniors Eric Fan, Kenny Boykin and Charles Coisman each won their respective weight classes for the three-time defending 4A state champion Knights.
And like Fox, Coisman also used a win over a defending state champion to win a Lancer Smith title.
Coisman, who finished third at 119 at the 4A state championships last year, edged East Anchorage junior Mathew Malnoske, two-time defending state champion, 3-2 in the 125-pound final.
“He is a tough kid,” Coisman said. “I figured it would be close, a tough match.”
Coisman, who lost to Malnoske in the 103-pound title match at the 2007 state championships, took a 2-0 lead early in the match.
Coisman escaped the grasp of Malnoske early in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Malnoske was able to record an escape of his own in the third period, but the Colony senior held on for the victory.
“He’s a really good wrestler,” Coisman said. “We both wanted it really bad there at the end.”
Boykin scored a 6-0 win over Skyview’s Fred Pollard to win the 171-pound class, and Fan pinned Dillingham’s Quinton Backford to finish first at 215.
After a scoreless first period, Fan — a 4A defending state champion — grabbed four takedowns in the second period to take a 9-4 lead.
Leading 10-4, Fan pinned Backford with 41 seconds left in the match.
Noah Roetman and Isaac Wilson also advanced to the finals for Colony. Keifer Groenveld, of Valdez, beat Roetman in the 103-pound final. Ketchikan’s Ross Sanford posted a 13-10 win over Wilson at 119.
Josh Brown and Derek Johnson advanced to the finals and finished second for Wasilla.
Colony and Wasilla each placed five wrestlers in the consolation finals.
Luke Faulkner (130), Kyle Boss (140), Ryan Knutson (160) and Renn Wright (275) each placed third for CHS. Chad Lowery was fourth for the Knights at 140.
Caleb Pempek (152) and Jake Johnson (215) each finished third the Warriors. Wasilla’s Cole Miller (112), Tyler Adams (119) and Ryan Pomrenke (275) were fourth.
Jared Kemp led the host Moose with a fourth-place finish at 130.
