Palmer, Wasilla hold annexation meetings

Published on Thursday, November 5, 2009 7:26 PM AKST

At different stages of the process, both Palmer and Wasilla are hosting informational sessions seeking public input about city plans for future annexation.

Palmer is working with a consulting company to develop guiding strategies and principles when looking at land to annex. More information can be found on the consultant’s website at www.agnewbeck.com under “Current Projects.”

The meeting is scheduled as follows:

• Palmer: Nov. 16 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the AT&T Sports Center (Community Room), 1507 N. Double B Street.

Wasilla is actively considering annexing areas surrounding the city. The areas under consideration include sections north of Wasilla to Seldon Road, east past Seward Meridian Parkway, south to include part of the Fairview Loop area and west to Foothills Boulevard.

The city council has not made any final decisions. Seeking public input, the city has scheduled the following meetings:

• Wednesday, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Cottonwood Creek Elementary School, 800 N. Seward Meridian Parkway.

• Thursday from 7 to  9:00 p.m., at Tanaina Elementary School, 2250 Lucille St.

• Nov. 19 from 7 to  9:00 p.m., at Goose Bay Elementary School, 6350 W. Hollywood Rd.

" Where was the Frontiersman for either of these meetings. Love how this paper never follows a whole story through. Come on reporters get off you duff and cover news that the Valley needs not news about stuff that is not in our Valley. "

" Well, if the additional meetings go like the meeting on Wednesday November 11, this thing should get shut down. Not one person at the Cottonwood Creek meeting was for the annexation plan. It would appear, however, that Wasilla City officials will still try to push it through the legislature without a vote. So, citizens of the affected annexations areas, attend your meetings, be vocal, and tell them NO WAY. "

" What can the city of Wasilla do for me? I understand that the water system needs to be up grade, the sewer system is also in need of up grade. I have not read anytime lately where the police have stopped a home invasion or a burglary in progress. So my guess of why they want to annex us into the city limits is because they need more revenue to manage the city. I have very good water, sewer system and a dog to protect my property. "
