Bob was born in Lemars, Iowa. He graduated from Arizona State University with a degree as a civil engineer. Bob worked for the California Water Project. He moved to Phoenix and worked for Salt River Project before moving to Alaska in 1973. He was employed by RCA — predecessor to the current AT&T in Alaska. Bob spent a tour of three years as chief engineer for Frank Moolin and Associates in Anchorage. He was one of the design engineers on the extension project of the White Alice replacement systems, which updated the World War II-era telecommunications in Alaska with a modern satellite network. Bob also worked for the AIMS Project, which linked all points in Alaska, including the pipeline and Southeast Alaska to modern networks to the Lower 48 states. This system is still in operations today. As project engineer, he oversaw the Southeast Microwave System. This was the first system to bring direct dial and television service to Juneau. Bob worked many projects that moved from the early days of satellite communications to the current day cellular and fiber optic systems. At the time of his death he was working for New Horizons Telecom Incorporated in Palmer.
