WASILLA — A woman was shot to death early this morning after Alaska State Troopers were called to the scene of a possible suicide attempt on Wasilla-Fishhook Road.

Nora J. York, 58, was killed when five troopers fired on her when she pointed a shotgun at them.

Col. Audie Holloway, head of the troopers, said seven troopers were on scene because the incident happened at shift change.

York had been threatening to kill a wheel-chair bound man in the house at 5816 E. Atka, about Mile 8 of the Fishhook.

Holloway said troopers heard in the background that York was saying, "Suicide by cop."

Holloway said it was fortunate troopers were there in force because York had also threatened a next door neighbor because of some jealousy between them.

"She might have been headed over there," he said about the timely arrival of the troopers.

Holloway said the relationship between York and the man she lived with was unclear. They had been together for 15 years he said, but York may have been the man's caretaker.

The scene was still under investigation by early afternoon today.

" I Understand from other news sources a Taser was also used by the Troopers to try to subdue the woman. This apparently had no effect on her at all. Seems that if a Taser was to have no effect at all there could be a possibility of drugs or something in her system that would negate the effects of a Taser charge. "

" Was this woman on medication when this happend, and had she been drinking or partying that night. It semms to me like she was a person that wanted revenge but wanted it in a horrible way. "
